Farmhouse Dog Biscuits

1 package active dry yeast dissolved in 1/2 c lukewarm (110-115F) water
1 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons molasses
1 3/4 to 2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup cracked wheat
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup nonfat dry milk powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons salt

Combine the following to brush tops before baking:
1 beaten egg
1 tablespoon milk
In a bowl 1 cup of the all-purpose flour, the whole wheat flour, cracked wheat, cornmeal, dry milk, garlic powder and salt. Mix well. Then add yeast/water mix, molasses & broth.
On floured surface knead in enough remaining flour to make a stiff dough. Roll out dough to 1/2″ thickness. Cut into biscuits with doggie cookie cutter. Place on un-greased baking sheets. Brush tops. Bake at 300 degrees F for 45 minutes. Turn oven off; let dry overnight in oven.

👩‍🍳 About the Author

Melissa "Liss" Burnell started Budget101.com in 2001 because she needed it to exist — not because she saw a market opportunity. She was feeding a family of four on under $200 a month, and people kept asking how, so she started writing everything down.

That turned into 25 years of recipes, debt-busting strategies, and DIY content — including figuring out how to make 128 loads of laundry detergent for less than $2. Millions of families have quietly used this site to stretch a dollar without feeling like they're sacrificing anything. She's also the author of two bestselling budget cooking ebooks, available on Amazon.
