Disposable shower caps aren’t just for the shower anymore! Check out these unusual, yet nifty tips for repurposing those inexpensive shower caps at home, camping and while traveling.

At Home:

iPad touchscreen cover – If you’re using your Ipad in the kitchen (while cooking!), Put a shower cap over the screen (it’s a perfect fit!) and continue on. That way, you can scroll or do whatever you need to without having to stop and wash your hands.

Pulling hair clogs out of the drain is so gross! Put a showercap over your hand and then grab the nasty hair clog, pull it out and wrap the shower cap over it.

Paint Texture Sponge
– Gob one into a ball, dip in paint and you’ve got an instant textured sponge.

Plant drip protection– Use a shower cap instead of a plate underneath a plant pot to catch drips and water leaks.

Reorganize your clothes– drawers by rolling belts or scarves or knit hats up in shower caps

Getting Ready for a Hot Date? Do your hair and makeup first, then put on a showercap while you slip on your Good Clothes. It will keep your hair from getting mussed and prevent getting makeup on your clothes.

Dust Protection– We Use shower caps over our hanging pots & pans at camp to keep them from getting dusty inside. This also works on small appliances such as toasters, blender, etc

Seat Cover– They make great bicycle seat covers when it’s raining. It keeps the seat from absorbing all the rain & breaking down prematurely.

Camera Cover- again, if you’re out and it starts raining, a shower cap makes a perfect camera cover!

Greenhouse Effect– Make your own Instant greenhouse for sprouting seedlings, cover a plant pot with the shower cap.

Dusty Garment Protection– Poke a hole in the middle of the shower cap then slip the hanger through, the cap will cover the shoulders of the garment, keeping it dust free.

Picnicking or Camping- Cover the stack of clean paper plates with it to prevent dust, flies, etc from dirtying them. They also cover cantaloupe, honeydew melon and watermelon halves wonderfully!

Frosting Bag– create your own frosting/piping bag by placing a tip through the bottom of the cap and attaching the ring on the outside (like you would use any piping bag!). (of course, you might want to check to see what type of plastic the bag is manufactured with first…)

Camera Filter– want to create your own softening effect with your favorite camera? Slip a bag over the lens ti create a dreamy haze.

Parachutes- let the kids tie strings to their army men and barbie dolls and throw them out the 2nd floor window, watch them parachute to the ground. It’s called Science folks… gravity!

Spring Slush/Rainboots- slip them on your feet OVER your nice clean dry socks before slipping on your boots or shoes. That way your feet will still warm and DRY even in the slushy spring thaw.

Clean Litterbox or Small Animal Pet Cage- slip one over your hand and scoop out the nasties from the litterbox (for cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, etc). Twist and toss!

Away from Home/Traveling:

Sanitary Protection– Use it over your hand when entering a public restroom or any public door.

For the Ladies– keep one tucked away in your purse, the next time you have to use a public restroom, take it out, cover your purse and set your purse between your feet on the floor of the stall. When you’re done, slip it off and toss it into the sanitary napkin disposal box before exiting the stall.

Instant Baggies– these clean, unused caps come in handy for dividing up a big box of Movie theater popcorn, or sharing snacks in the car, they’re wide at the base and narrow at the top, which help makes them spill-proof.

Shoe Covers- use them to store your shoes in before placing them in the suitcase to keep other items tidy and dirt free.

Hotel Remote Control Cover- as we mentioned in our top 15 dirtiest things you touch everyday– remote controls top the list! Slip a cover over the remote and use it to your hearts content, without fear of the nasties creeping in.

Dirty Undergarments/Swimwear– help keep these items separate from the rest of your clothing in your travel bag by nestling them into a shower cap cover first.

Pet Care-
these little bags make great foldable water dishes for dogs while traveling and can be used a pooper scooper too!

Ice Pack- got a banged knee or elbow? Fill with ice and apply this simple instant Ice pack!

Travel Silverware-wrap some plasticware or silverware in a shower cap and store it in the glove box of your car, you’ll always have clean utensils to eat with when you’re traveling.

Pack Toiletries or Laundry Supplies– perfect size to pack toiletries or laundry supplies to keep them from leaking everywhere.

  1. When travelling, I wrap my shoes in the shower caps. Keeps the dirt of my clothes. Especailly for my hubby’s shoes that he just polished!:stars:

  2. I saw this hint somewhere and I don’t remember where. When packing for a trip put your shoes in shower caps. Also string your neck less threw a straw to keep it from knotting.

  3. Be careful using products for food that are not listed as food safe. Some of the chemicals they are made from and how they are made will affect the safety of your food…especially is someone you serve has allergies. I have seen way too many food safety videos to use non food safe items on my food.

  4. I use them when travelling, we often eat in our room and always end up with leftovers of some kind. They a small compact and easy to carry.

  5. Okay, I have a few to add to this:

  6. These are great. But a word of warning: they may be seconds. I just purchased one that turned out so small even a child would not be able to wear it.

Open the pkg before you leave and save yourself a trip!
