Gentle Fabric Soap

1 bar Ivory soap – grated

4 cups boiling water

1/2 cup borax

Combine soap and borax in a large pan and pour the boiling water over the mixture, stirring until soap is dissolved. Cool, then store in a plastic squeeze or pump container and keep in the laundry area.
To use, measure out 1/4 cup for each quart of water. Add items to be washed and agitate them around. The mixture should produce suds. If it does not, add another squirt. If your delicate items are heavily soiled, soak them for 1 or 2 hours in the cleaning solution before laundering them.

  1. i thought that the borax would be more harsh than washing soda on laundry? does anyone have anopinion or already tested the two? i have many delicates.

great sounding recipe and i look forward to trying it. i imagine it would turn into a liquid detergent quite well also.
