If you have residual oils on your wallcovering you can recondition the surface by using a commercial paper wallcover cleaner. This will deeply clean and help preserve the face of your wallpaper.
Prepare a small area with a mild detergent solution and lubricant, then spray it heavily on the oiled paper walls to penetrate into any areas that may be difficult to reach. Let this sit for up to 10 minutes, then sponge it off with water and dry thoroughly.
After you have reconditioned all surfaces in this way, use a squeegee or soft towel to remove excess moisture from the stains before hanging or applying wallpaper again.
