another trick i have found to be effective is to pour a little carbonated beverage onto the battery terminals (the acid in the beverage eats away the corrosion). dip the cable endings into some of the beverage also. reapply beverage until all of the corrosion has disappeared.
rinse with clear water. to delay/protect against future corrosion, cover the cable endings and the battery terminals with petroleum jelly (vaseline or anything like that).:2cents:
a word of caution in using the baking soda formula. please be very careful to prevent the baking soda mixture from getting into the battery cells. baking soda actually neutralizes the battery acid which will “kill” your battery.
i think the baking soda mixture is safe to use when the mixture doesn’t get into the battery cells.:news1:
I believe that although this precaution is valid, the batteries of today are mostly the sealed cell variety, making the cells inaccessible.:deadhorse:
we used to use baking soda and vinegar. the caution is right. be careful.
