Default Homemade Laundry soap and softner warning

Hi all, I wonted to share with you all that my 3and7 y/o girls both
were in ICU for 5 days, they both had pylonephritis -at the same time-
The drs. said it was from making and using my own laundry soap.
I used (grated)bar soap, 1 cup borax, and 1 cup liquid detergent and

water. Softner I used 6 cups white vinegar, 6 cups baking soda,1 cup
    liquid softner, 12 cup water.

I am sorry that you have had this happen. I don't know how much water you
are using for the soap mixture BUT you are using toooooooooo much
ingredients in your softner. For my softner I use hair conditioner 2T in 8
oz of water in a spray bottle. I use 3-4 squirts / load in the dryer and it
has lasted for a year and 3/4 bottle to go.

2 questions: 1. Do you spray the softener into the dryer? On to a
cloth? 2. did the DR say WHY using the homemade detergent would cause
an infection??? maybe he didn't think the clothes were getting clean?

How did making your own laundry cause your children to have a kidney infection? No disrespect intended just curious. My daughter had a kidney infection when she was 4 and spent several days in the hospital but I don?t make my own detergent. They never really gave us a cause.

Ok, Please correct me if I am wrong-- I am no doctor, but something
sounds totally amiss here to me. I looked up this "pylonephritis" and
found that it is a BACTERIAL infection (like in the kidneys?). I would
want to ask these doctors to explain how laundry soap ingredients are
related to bacteria! Unless your ingredients are somehow contaminated
(I would think highly unlikely), I just don't see the correlation. And
then why don't ALL the family members have it? And too, borax and
vinegar both are to some extent ANTI-bacterial--at least from what I
have read. Sorry, guys, I'm just suspicious of this "explanation".

What did your girls have? The mixture you described seemed very heavy on soap and I am wondering if that was why they got sick.

Sure hope they are OK now.

Re: Homemade Laundry soap and softner warning

I hope that your girls are doing better. How horrible.

I just starting making my own laundry soap and I have 3 little boys.
How did your girls get pylonephritis from the soap? I have never
heard of this before. I use 1 bar of grated soap, 1 cup of borax and
1 cup of washing soda. I thought I was doing a great job by making my
own soap but now I am questioning my idea.

Anyway I understand that you have a lot to deal with but whenever you
    can please inform me.

    Take care,
    Kathy

Hi I'm new to this group but has anyone looked up how pylonephritis
is obtained? There is a whole list of how girls (little) get this
some are more prone than others but it's not to homemade soaps or
detergent. This is a bacterial infection like UTI's. Look it up on
medline plus. The reason I know I got this a few years back and I'm a
    grown woman.

Re: Budget101.com : Re: Homemade Laundry soap and softner warning

Every time someone, especially Dr. tell us about our holistic ways, we panic. I would continue using home made soap. I went to a pharmaceutical and told him that I have MG and am interested in using Ginsing. I asked him to check if I can take Ginsing with Mestinon which I take 3 x a day. He didn't look at any books, he looked at me and told me I will be OK. So of course I went home with Ginsing. Side effects started with cramping and other minor issues. So I pulled out my Prescription for Natural Healing book and guess what I found out. MG is immune system problem and one thing was not to muse Ginsing. Also that it will cause like-labor contractions/cramping. I can tell you many stories of errors that medical field has made. So let your gut feeling tell you if you are doing what you are suppose to. Most doctors do not want to help you if you ask for help using holistic medicine. In this case home made soap.

Good luck to all of us,
    Melissa

Which part caused the inflamation? The soap you used or the stuff in the rinse? I kinda make my own detergent - I use a 1/2 borax, 1/2 washing soda mix, I fill my detergent scoop about 1/2 full, then add 1/4th reg powdered detergent. I don't fill the scoop entirely. Then I use downy for the rinse.
That is quite a concoction for the softener. Why did you use baking soda in it?
