One of the projects that I plan on tackling over the next year is to
make insulated shades. At first I thought to use old quilts or
inexpensive quilted fabric found at thrift stores but then another
idea struck me. Many of the thrift stores around here always seem to
have old thermal curtains at reasonable prices and they are often very
long. Why not use the thermal curtains to make insulated/thermal
shades from? The curtains would be more effective as draft and cold
barriers as shades rather than curtains. So I bought up a bunch of
curtains (at a whopping $5 per pair) and will be gradually making
shades out of those.

Hope this gives some of you handy, thrifty folks some ideas!!
