Think fluffy carb-laden french toast is a no-no on keto? Not if you follow this scrumptious killer keto maple french toast recipe!! It tastes like the real thing, but without the excessive carbs. This french toast is bursting with buttery maple goodness, before you ever touch it with syrup.
We usually don’t purchase keto bread, we make our own. However, when I saw this zero carb bread from Aldi, I thought I’d give it a try. I didn’t care for it in sandwiches, but it turns out that it makes killer keto maple french toast.
How to Make Killer Keto Maple French Toast
We’re starting with Aldi zero net carb wheat bread. This is “dirty keto” because it includes wheat gluten. In a shallow bowl whisk eggs, cream, maple extract, and cinnamon together until smooth.
Heat a skillet over medium heat, add a dollop of butter. When the pan is hot, dip the bread in the egg mixture,
(just for a second, don’t let it soak!)
flip it to wet the other side,
let it drain for a moment over the bowl,
then place in the hot pan or on a hot griddle. Cook for about a minute to a minute and half per side.
Flip it and finish cooking the other side. French toast cooks fast. Here’s a tip, never flip french toast more than once. If you do, it goes flat, rather than fluffy.
Also, don’t soak the bread in the egg mixture, you dip it. Doing so makes the french toast heavy and eggy, rather than light, fluffy, and full of flavor.
If you’d like, serve it drizzled with Keto maple syrup and a some butter. That’s how we prefer ours!
