How to Make Fireball Whiskey Pumpkin Pie

A pumpkin pie like this will be the star of your Thanksgiving dessert table! The small amount of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky in this pumpkin pie really takes the flavor to the next level.

You’ll need a few essential ingredients to prepare this pie, including canned pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, salt, pumpkin spice, and of course, Fireball whiskey.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. While it’s pre-heating, prepare the pie crust. If you’re short on time, you can use rolled pie crust dough, such as Pillsbury’s; otherwise, we recommend this very forgiving all butter pie crust recipe. Line a 9″ pie plate with the unbaked crust, flute the edges, and set it aside.

In a large bowl, whisk the eggs until light and fluffy. You can use a hand or stand mixer if you prefer. Next, add in the rest of the pie filling ingredients, mixing gently just until combined.

You’ll note that we’re using solid-pack canned pumpkin in this recipe, NOT pumpkin pie filling. If you opt to use pumpkin pie filling, the pie will not be set correctly due to the additional liquid. If you prefer, you can substitute fresh pumpkin for canned.

Transfer the mixture to an unbaked 9-inch pie shell.

Bake the pie for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean; allow it to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours prior to serving.

What is Fireball Whiskey?

Fireball is a brand of Canadian whisky produced by the Sazerac Company, containing sweeteners and cinnamon flavors that resemble the old-fashioned “Atomic Fireballs” cinnamon candy that you likely enjoyed as children.

Fireball Cinnamon Whisky is 66 proof, which is about twenty percent less alcohol, qualifying it as a liqueur rather than a traditional Whiskey. Hence the spelling of “whisky” without the “E.”

What is Pumpkin Spice?

Does Baking with Alcohol Burn it Off, aka, Can My Kids Eat this Fireball Pumpkin Pie?

According to a study by the US Department of Agriculture’s Nutrient Data lab, food baked or simmered in alcohol for 15 minutes retains 40 percent of its alcohol. Following an hour of cooking, 25 percent of the alcohol remains, and even as much as 5 percent remains after two and a half hours.

Since this pie bakes for about one hour, that means that it will likely retain about twenty-five percent of the alcohol content.
