Pumpkin Pie Spice mix is a blend of cinnamon, allspice, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg brought together to bring out the wonderful flavor of pumpkin in all its autumn glory. Unfortunately, it’s not available everywhere, but don’t fret, you can make it at home, here are a couple of recipes for making your own.
Each of the pumpkin pie spice seasoning blends below use completely ground spices. These can be purchased in bulk for pennies at whole foods and natural foods stores. This is generally how we purchase our spices, in bulk.
Pumpkin Pie Spice #1
You’ll Need:
1/4 cup cinnamon
1 Tbsp. allspice
1 1/2 tsp. each ginger and nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp Cardamom
Combine all ingredients and seal in Ziploc or vacuum seal bag (or jar).
Pumpkin Pie Spice #2
You’ll Need:
1/4 cup ground cinnamon
1/8 cup ground ginger
1 Tablespoon nutmeg
1 Tablespoon ground cloves
2 Tsp Cardamom
Combine all ingredients and seal in Ziploc or vacuum seal bag (or jar).
Pumpkin Pie Spice Single Recipe Version
(for small recipes, rather than a make-ahead batch)
You’ll Need:
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger,
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground cardamom
Combine all the above to yield 1 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice.
