Super easy, yummy gift idea

Each of the mustard blends begins with the following basic base recipe:

You’ll Need:
3 ozs. of brown or yellow mustard seeds
1/4 c. of brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp. cracked pepper
1 tsp. of turmeric
7/8 cup of malt vinegar ORwine OR white vinegar

In a blender add the mustard seeds, sugar salt, pepper, turmeric and whirl. Add the vinegar gradually, about a tablespoon at a time until it’s fully incorporated.

The consistency of the mustard should be a coarse paste, allow this mixture to rest for 20 minutes to allow the flavors to marry.

Spoon into a clean jar (the above makes about 1 cup of mustard), cap tightly and store in the refrigerator. .

To make different gourmet mustards:

Clove Spice Mustard add one teaspoon of cloves to the gourmet mustard base recipe just prior to blending in the blender.

Mustard Herbes De Provence :add two tablespoon of Herbs de Provence mixture to the gourmet mustard base recipe, just prior to blending.

Hot Garlic Mustard: add 1 dried chili pepper and 1 clove of garlic to the gourmet mustard base recipe, just prior to blending.

Horseradish Mustard: add 1/2-1 tablespoon of grated horseradish to the gourmet mustard base recipe, just prior to blending.

Tarragon Mustard: add a pinch of cloves and 1 teaspoon of tarragon to the gourmet mustard base recipe, just prior to blending.

Beer Mustard: use 1/2 cup of beer and 1/4 of malt vinegar instead of the 7/8 cup of malt vinegar, add a pinch of ginger, cinnamon and caraway seeds

Honey Mustard: add 1/4 honey instead of brown sugar

Bourbon Honey Mustard– add the 1/4 c honey and substitute your favorite brand of bourbon for the malt vinegar. This one can be potent, but it’s fantastic on brats!
