Place mix in a pretty mug, lined with tissue paper, add a couple little birthday candles and a book of matches (if the recipient is old enough to light them! Great Birthday idea for College students, Elderly who may only want a “little” sweets, etc.

1 cake mix any flavor
1 ( 4 serving size) instant pudding mix , any flavor

Blend ingredients well until completely mixed. Measure ½ cup dry mix into sandwich bags, Makes 8-9) & tie it closed using ribbon.

Flavors:

  • Lemon cake mix- lemon pudding
  • Yellow cake mix- vanilla pudding
  • Devils food cake mix- chocolate pudding
  • Pineapple cake mix- coconut pudding
  • Butterscotch cake mix- butterscotch pudding

Glaze mix :

In a separate bag combine the following ingredients:
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1 ½ tsp dry flavoring
( ex. powdered lemonade mix, powdered orange breakfast drink mix, cocoa powder)

In a large coffee mug place a Cake Mix & a glaze mix and attach a tag with the instructions for cooking. (You can also attach a small wire whisk using raffia or a ribbon, etc).

To Use:

Grease or spray coffee mug with cooking spray. Empty Cake Mix into mug and add 1 egg white, 1 T. Oil & 1 T water. Blend with fork until smooth. Place in microwave and cook on high for 2 minutes.
While cake is cooking add 1 ½ tsp water to glaze mix in baggie. Close and gently rub baggie until glaze is smooth. When cake is done, remove from microwave, cut a small hole in the corner of glaze packet and apply glaze to your mug cake.

Eat while warm!

Other Help Items:
If you want to make the packets easier for the recipient add a couple teaspoons of Just Whites egg replacement powder to each individual packet or Cake “mix”. & On directions tag add an additional 1 T water to recipe & omit egg white from recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 box cake mix any flavor
  • 1 instant pudding mix 4-serving size, any flavor
  • 2 ⅔ cups powdered sugar divided into 8 glaze packets
  • 4 teaspoons dry flavoring divided into 8 glaze packets
  • For each serving: 1 egg white
  • For each serving: 1 tablespoon oil
  • For each serving: 1 tablespoon water
  • For each serving glaze: 1 1/2 teaspoons water

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, blend the cake mix and instant pudding mix until completely combined.
  2. Measure 1/2 cup of dry mix into each sandwich bag to make 8 individual mug cake packets.
  3. For each glaze packet, combine 1/3 cup powdered sugar with 1/2 teaspoon dry flavoring in a small bag and seal.
  4. To prepare one mug cake, grease or spray a large coffee mug.
  5. Empty 1 cake mix packet into the mug and add 1 egg white, 1 tablespoon oil, and 1 tablespoon water.
  6. Stir with a fork until smooth.
  7. Microwave on high for 2 minutes.
  8. While the cake cooks, add 1 1/2 teaspoons water to 1 glaze packet, seal, and gently knead until smooth.
  9. Snip a tiny corner from the glaze bag and drizzle over the warm cake.
  10. Serve warm.

💡 If you altered the ingredients above by doubling or tripling the recipe, you may also need to change the pan/dish size and adjust the cook time.

Notes

Prep time is estimated for mixing and portioning 8 packets.
Yield is estimated from one 15.25-ounce cake mix and one 3.4-ounce instant pudding mix portioned into 1/2-cup servings.
Estimated cost is based on 1 Walmart cake mix at about $1.34, 1 pudding mix at about $1.68, powdered sugar used for 8 glaze packets at about $1.60, and dry flavoring estimated from True Lemon packets at about $2.84. Fresh egg white and oil are not included in the batch cost because they are added when each mug cake is prepared.
Store dry mix and glaze packets airtight in a cool, dry place for 6 to 12 months for best quality, based on package dates.
Refrigerate leftover cooked mug cake within 2 hours and use within 3 to 4 days.
