Make your own delicious Hazelnut (Nutella) Crinkle Cookie mix to have on hand for a quick, delicious dessert, snack or gift basket addition.
3 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup shortening
1 1/3 cups sugar
Place a baggie of 1/2 cup finely chopped hazelnuts on top
Combine flour, baking powder and salt until mixed, then cut in shortening until completely blended. Layer the flour mix in a quart jar with the sugar. Makes 1 Mix. Add a label with directions to finish the cookies.
To Prepare Cookies:
1 Jar of Mix (see above)
11 oz Nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread or the equivalent, such as homemade)
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup milk
2 cups hazelnuts, finely chopped
Sifted powdered sugar
Combine jar of mix, nutella, vanilla, milk and eggs, mixing well until creamed. Alternately add flour mixture until well blended; stir in the chopped hazelnuts.
Cover and chill 4 hours or overnight until firm.
Preheat oven to 375° F. Butter baking sheet. Form into 1 inch balls. Roll in finely chopped hazelnuts; roll in powdered sugar. Bake on prepared baking sheet 2 inches apart for 8 to 10 minutes or until cracked and cookies are set.
Transfer to a cooling rack.
Makes 72 cookies.
