Black Bean Soup Mix

1 pound dried black beans
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1 teaspoon cumin powder
4 beef bouillon cubes, crumbled

Layer all ingredients in a large cone-shaped bag, Jar, or Vacuum Seal bag; seal & attach a tag with directions. If desired, Decorate Jar/Cone/Bag for what-ever occasion it was created for.

Attach Tag:
Black Bean Soup
2 tbl. veg oil
1 medium onion (chopped)
1/2 pound polish sausage
1 package black bean soup mix
8 c. water, salt and pepper

In stockpot, soak beans in water overnight. Drain beans and reserve.
In large stockpot, heat the oil, and add onion and sausage. Saute mixture over medium high heat until onion is translucent. Add the beans and Black Bean Soup Mix. Stir the mixture and add the water. Reduce the heat to a simmer, and cook partially covered for 2 hours. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

  1. Quick question about the preparation of this mix. Do you add everything in with the beans all at once or do you add the dry ingredients and beef bouillon later when simmering it all together?
