Focaccia (pronounced fo-KAH-chee-ah) is a mouth-watering flat bread that originated in Tuscany region of Italy. Homemade Focaccia is a versatile bread that is easy to make at home, even for a beginner.

1 package yeast
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
1 1/2 teaspoons dried rosemary
1 1/2 cups bread flour
1/2 teaspoon salt

Combine the bread flour, red pepper flakes, rosemary, and salt together mixing well, then pout into a Pint-size mason jar, ziploc baggie, vacuum seal bag, or any other covered container. At the top of the jar (or baggie) add the sugar and yeast packet. (makes 1 Jar)

Attach the following instructions on a gift tag if giving as a gift.

Focaccia

Contents of 1 jar (as listed above)
1/2 cup warm water
4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
Salt
Pesto

First, remove the yeast packet from the top of the mix.

In a Mixing bowl Combine:

* 1/2 c. warm water
* 2 T. Olive Oil
*1/2 the contents of the jar and the entire contents of the yeast packet. Mix until smooth and blended then add the remaining contents of the jar.

Knead until smooth by hand or with a stand mixer (just a couple minutes will do). Transfer to an oiled bowl, turn to oil all over, cover and let rise until doubled, usually about 10-15 minutes.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Punch dough down and roll into a 13 x 9-inch rectangle or on a pizza pie dish. Use the wooden end of a spoon (or your fingers, if you’re so inclined!) to press indents halfway through the thickness of the dough, spaced every inch or so. Brush with remaining oil. Sprinkle with salt and any other herbs you wish to add, bake 5 minutes. Pop air bubbles with a fork and continue baking until golden, about 8 minutes more. Remove from pan and cut to serve.

Serve warm with pesto.

    • Can anyone tell me how long to combine for and how long to knead for. I am using a kitchen aid mixer?

      Just until it’s smooth, a few minutes is all it really needs.

  1. I always love trying out new recipes and I was so happy with this homemade Focaccia Bread Mix. The instructions were very easy to follow and I had lots of fun making it.

    The best part about focaccia bread mix is that it can be made in a variety of flavours such as tomato, basil, herbed, and garlic. It’s also very healthy because it is just made up of fresh ingredients.
