If you love spiced sweet peaches, you’ll love this Make Your Own Peach Delight recipe! I have a confession to make, I created this recipe completely on accident. I was making a lovely batch of harvest peach jam when the spice bag broke open. Rather than toss it, I simply let the spices simmer just a bit longer and voila… The Peach delight was created!
This thick sauce is perfect on pancakes, ice cream, warm biscuits, as a topping for pound cake or even in filled cookies. Without further ado, here’s how you can make your own peach delight!
Hopefully, you’ve already prepared your fresh peaches, but if not, here is a handy step by step guide.
Once your peaches are pitted and peeled, you’ll need finely chop or shred one quart of peaches into a large bowl. Add the lemon juice and stir to combine.
Combine the ground cloves, ground allspice, ground cinnamon, and sugar together in a large saucepan, give it a good stir and add in the peaches.
Slowly bring it to a boil over medium heat allowing the sugar to become fully dissolved. Stir in a pouch of liquid pectin and allow it to boil hard at a full rolling boil for one full minute. If you’re not familiar with the term “rolling boil” it means that the boiling continues even if you’re stirring the pot.
Then simply ladle the peach delight into hot prepared jars, skimming off any foam that accumulates. Be sure to leave 1/4″ of headspace.
Adjust the two-piece caps and then process for 10 minutes in boiling water bath.
See, wasn’t that super simple?! Now, here’s the complete recipe to make your own peach delight.
Peach Delight Recipe
You’ll need:
1 Quart finely chopped/shredded Prepared Peaches
1/4 c. Lemon Juice to your fruit, stir.
1 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground Allspice
1 tsp ground cinnamon
7 1/2 c. Sugar
Measure 1 quart of finely chopped/shredded prepared peaches into a large bowl. Add the lemon juice and stir well. In a large saucepan combine sugar, cloves, allspice and ground cinnamon, mixing well. Add the peach mixture, stirring to combine.
Bring it to a boil (slowly!) over med heat until sugar is fully dissolved. Stir in 1 Pouch of Liquid Pectin and allow it to boil Hard at a rolling boil for 1 full minute.
Ladle into hot prepared jars, (skimming foam if necessary), leaving 1/4″ headspace.
Adjust two-piece caps and process in boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
You’ll notice that Peach Delight is considerably darker than Peach Jam, this is due to the ground spices. The peaches are still prepared with either fruit fresh, lemon juice, or ascorbic acid prior to the recipe.
If you want an amazingly delectable dessert, bake a yellow cake, poke holes throughout, smother it in peach delight and top with stabilized whipped cream!
How Long Will It Last?
In our household, it lasted about a month. However, home-canned foods generally have a shelf life of 1 year, but should definitely be used within 2 years.
