1 onion, finely chopped
1 pound ground beef or turkey
1 clove garlic
1 teaspoon each ground chili powder and cumin
1 cup tomato sauce

1/2 cup water
Salt and pepper

You” also need Toasted hamburger buns, English muffins or bread (any kind is fine!)

In a large skillet, Heat vegetable oil until very hot, add onion and saute for 5 minutes or until translucent. Add beef (or ground turkey) and garlic continues to sauté 10 minutes until the meat is fully cooked. Stir in ground chili, cumin, tomato and chili sauces, water until it bubbles, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Spoon over toasted bread of choice.

Serve with salad or anything else your heart desires!

My DH normally swears by name brand joe mix – he said this was pretty close to the “real thing” although I did catch him adding a dash of homemade Franks Hot sauce to it!

  1. my homemade sloppy joe mix is similar. i also use tomato catsup in it. amount varies depending on the amount i am making.

i also use it for hot dog sauce.

    yum!! good eats!

  2. looks pretty good. i don’t have a recipe for sloppy joe’s, just use worcheshire sauce, ketchup, mustard, and a little bbq sauce for flavor. brown beef and sometimes dried onions.

so simple and everyone asks i do it.

i’ll have to try your recipe too. :lets-eat:

  3. Meals like this have been saving my hide this summer with baseball every night! Love the addition of the beans! Pinned 🙂
