Homemade Sloppy Joe’s

Make your own Zesty homemade Sloppy Joe filling with this easy tried and true recipe which is a blend of hearty beef or ground turkey, garlic, tomato sauce, and seasonings.
This is a great recipe for a busy weeknight as it takes less than 20 minutes to get out on the dinner table.

You’ll Need:
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 onion, finely chopped
1 pound ground beef or turkey
1 clove garlic
1 teaspoon each ground chili powder and cumin
1 cup tomato sauce
1 cup chili sauce
1/2 cup water
Salt and pepper

You” also need Toasted hamburger buns, English muffins or bread (any kind is fine!)

In a large skillet, Heat vegetable oil until very hot, add onion and saute for 5 minutes or until translucent. Add beef (or ground turkey) and garlic continues to sauté 10 minutes until the meat is fully cooked. Stir in ground chili, cumin, tomato and chili sauces, water until it bubbles, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Spoon over toasted bread of choice.

Serve with salad or anything else your heart desires!

My DH normally swears by name brand joe mix – he said this was pretty close to the “real thing” although I did catch him adding a dash of homemade Franks Hot sauce to it!

  1. my homemade sloppy joe mix is similar. i also use tomato catsup in it. amount varies depending on the amount i am making.

    i also use it for hot dog sauce.

  2. looks pretty good. i don’t have a recipe for sloppy joe’s, just use worcheshire sauce, ketchup, mustard, and a little bbq sauce for flavor. brown beef and sometimes dried onions.

    so simple and everyone asks i do it.

    i’ll have to try your recipe too. :lets-eat:
