2 C. granulated sugar
3/4 C. water
2 T. unflavored gelatin
1/2 C. cold water
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. salt
Cornstarch
Confectioners’ sugar

Mix granulated sugar with the 3/4 cup water. Simmer to soft-ball stage. Remove from heat. Soften gelatin in the 1/2 cup cold water. Place on a large platter. Pour hot syrup over softened gelatin. Stir until dissolved. Let stand until partially cooled.

Whip until thick and white, and mixture will nearly hold its shape. Add vanilla extract and salt. Pour into straight-sided pans lined with equal parts of cornstarch and confectioners’ sugar, mixed together. Let stand in cool place until firm (not in refrigerator). Cut into squares with scissors or cookie cutters and dust with confectioners’ sugar.

Melissa "Liss" Burnell started Budget101.com in 2001 because she needed it to exist — not because she saw a market opportunity. She was feeding a family of four on under $200 a month, and people kept asking how, so she started writing everything down.

That turned into 25 years of recipes, debt-busting strategies, and DIY content — including figuring out how to make 128 loads of laundry detergent for less than $2. Millions of families have quietly used this site to stretch a dollar without feeling like they're sacrificing anything. 1. this is exactly the recipe handed down to me from my mother’s mother (my grandmother died in 1926). I have made them many times. Don’t expect them to look or feel like those you buy, but they are delicious and work great in hot chocolate.

  2. I made these homemade marshmallows, and they were absolutely amazing! ☁️🍫 They turned out super fluffy, light, and perfectly sweet, so much better than the store-bought kind. Plus, they melt beautifully in hot chocolate and toast up nicely over a campfire. 🔥🍫☕
