The original Kitchen Bouquet ingredients include caramel, vegetable base (water, carrots, onions, celery, parsnips, turnips, salt, parsley, spices), sodium benzoate, and sulfiting agents.

In order to easily reproduce the flavor and consistency, we’ve opted to use vegetable broth to replace the vegetables and brown sugar to create the color and flavor of the caramel. This recipe is so simple to make!

MYO Kitchen Bouquet Clone

1/2 C. brown sugar
2 C. vegetable broth

Put brown sugar in a pan on low heat and let it burn or parch, slowly stirring all the time. When it turns a dark brown, add broth, stirring well. Store in glass bottle or small jar. Adds color & thickens gravy.

    • NostalgicGranny Wrote, “the real version of kitchen bouquet does not contain sugar.”

Actually, the “real” kitchen bouquet does contain sugar, in the form of “Caramel”. People often forget that sugar comes in many names.

  1. This is NOT kitchen bouquet. The real kitchen bouquet is made with vegetables, spices and seasonings. And it certainly does not have brown sugar in it. Avoid this fake, and just buy the real deal.

    • That’s why it’s a Copycat recipe- it duplicates the FLAVOR of the recipe. As was explained in the recipe, the brown sugar is used to replace the caramel in the original product.

You seem so defensive over a recipe. I make this recipe and freeze it in ice cube trays so that I can always have the perfect amount to toss into recipes as I cook. It works a treat and tastes great.
