MYO Microwave Popcorn

You’ll Need:
paper bag (lunch size)
1/4 cup popcorn kernels
2 to 3 tablespoons melted butter (optional)
Popcorn salt or table salt, to taste (optional)
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese or other cheese sprinkle (optional)

Pour the (unpopped kernels) of popcorn in the paper bag.

Fold the top of the bag over twice to close. Each fold should be 1/2 inch deep; the kernels need room to pop. Seal the bag with a tiny piece of tape (this is totally optional and we don’t bother, we just fold the top thinly, twice and it doesn’t open.)

Put the bag in the microwave and cook on high power for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the pops are 5 seconds apart.

Remove the bag from the oven and open it carefully, avoiding the steam. If desired, drizzle it with melted butter, then toss with salt and cheese, close the top, shake the bag to distribute it evenly, pour into a bowl and serve.

  1. So much healthier for you too! I make the copycat ranch dressing and add an extra teaspoon of dill then sprinkle it over the popcorn, it’s everyones fave around here.

  2. i’ve done this before. i don’t even tape the bag closed, just fold it down. as for seasoning, try fajita seasoning – my favorite!

(if you can’t find fajita seasoning, then you live too far north! 😉 )

Hit Ctrl+Alt+F5 at the same time to force the page to reload. I think that’ll solve your display issue 🙂

  4. should the bag be upright or on it’s side? we just tried it upright and waited for the five seconds between pops. it was a ball of burnt popcorn!

we tried it again by laying it on it’s side and only waited for three seconds between pops. it came out beautiful but there were a number of kernels that were left un-popped. what am i doing wrong?

also, should we add any butter or oil to the bag before we pop it? thanks for your help on this. we love it anyway and will continue doing it.

we love that it is so much healthier!
