Creamy Herb Rice Mix

2.75-ounce pkg. Country Gravy Mix (regular or no-fat)
1 tablespoon chicken bouillon granules
2 teaspoons dried minced onion
2 teaspoons dried celery flakes
1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1/4 cup uncooked wild rice
1 cup uncooked white rice
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped dried mushrooms from the produce section (shiitake, chanterelle or oyster)

Blend Gravy mix & seasonings and layer in jar with wild rice, white rice & shrooms. Continue until its gone.

Decorate jar as desired and attach gift tag with following directions:

Empty contents of jar into a large saucepan or Dutch oven. Add 7 cups water; heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes or until rice is tender, stirring occasionally. Or, place in crockpot in the morning with 7 cups of water and let it simmer all day until you get home. *Smile* Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.

  1. I guess it’s because when I look at a recipe and it says it serves 2-4 or 4-6 I think to myself, “yeah right, is that 2-4 toddlers or 2-4 adults?” I usually just look at the quantity of ingredients to tell how many the recipe will serve based on my families needs.

    This 1 jar mix contains 1 1/4 c. rice plus mushrooms which will reconstitute in water- so, when it’s complete it will serve approximately 4 people as a side dish accompanying a main dish, such as grilled chicken or steak-

    then again, it depends on your idea of a serving- I have teenage boys and a husband who works in construction for a living- so this recipe serves the 4 of us as a side dish. If you have younger kids at home, than this will probably serve closer to 6 people.
