3 3/4 cups granulated sugar
2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/3 cups unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon Baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups Shortening
Blend all ingredients together and store in ziploc bag until ready to use.
To Use:
2 1/2 c. Mix (see above)
2 eggs — unbeaten
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Spread evenly in a 8×8 inch, greased pan. Bake in preheated 350 oven for 20 minutes. Center should appear slightly underdone; for more cake-like Brownies, bake an additional 5 minutes.
would you just double the recipe for a 13×9 inch pan? I have 3 teens at home. 8×8 doesn’t seem worth the effort.
Yes, and it’ll change the cooking time by a few minutes as well, so keep an eye on them 🙂
can you use shortening powder or just regular shortening?
i made these and must say, not so good. completely grainy. there was so much sugar that it wouldn’t dissolve during baking.
when i bit in to the brownie, it was crunchy from the sugar. it needs more flour. i’m trying to find a way to alter this to make it acceptable because right now, you could give yourself diabetes with this one!
