hershey’s chocolate bar
materials:
i bought 3/4 yd of dark brown suiting (Walmart used to have a large selection of $1 & $2- 60″ width fabrics) In the bargain bin, I found 1/3 yd of silver material for $2, and I bought silver grey thread. I already had a bottle of fabric glue and Stencils.
Process of making the Costume:
First I determined how much space it would take to spell Hershey’s and chose the stencils that would fit the space between my daughter’s shoulders and ankles.
Then I placed the stencils back side up on the wrong side of the material and marked around them. Made them about 1/4″ wider all the way around. Later I used fabric glue to turn the 1/4 inch under (and stop fraying) and after pinning it to the front of the fabric – zig-zagged the edges to the front piece of the costume.
The brown fabric was like a huge pillow case with side slits from just above knee level to the ankles, and the front was identical to the back except for a “nose notch” in the middle. (since the center of the sewn seam was open and hemmed, to keep the opening small enough so that it did not fall off her shoulders, there had to be enough space to pull it on and off – hence a nose notch – two inch long slit with triangles stitched back to form a cut out “V”.
The letters were stitched to the front and a dab of fabric glue does away with pins , so its easy to zig zag around the letters quickly.
A wide silver headband with a piece of paper that said hershey’s (looks like the paper tag on a hershey’s kiss) completed the costume.
