November 11th is national sundae day. One of Americas most beloved desserts, though the origins of said treat areunknown. The earliest sundae was made around 1880 and a few places have claimed to have made the first sundae but it has never been fully proven who actually did.
A sundae usually consists of 1 or 2 scoops of ice-cream with some type of liquid topping with whip cream and a cherry. Never forget the cherry even if you do not like them a sundae is not complete without a cherry. It is the most important part, sort of like candles on a birthday cake or gravy on mashed potatoes. If your sundae does not have a cherry, it is simply ice cream with toppings. The cherry raises your ordinary ice cream to the status of the legendary sundae.
So to celebrate national sundae day, (say that five times fast) get a tub of your favorite ice cream, whip cream, cherries, some of your favorite toppings and a handful of friends and make yourself some great tasting sundaes. Did you know a banana split is actually three sundaes in one? So I am going to teach you how to make a layered banana split sundae.
2 scoops of ice-cream
cherries (even if you hate it add it anyway because it is the key to a perfect sundae)
Honeyed walnuts (optional)
strawberry topping (fresh strawberries are better)
half a banana sliced into coins.
Comb your cupboards for your fanciest cup, take your fudge and swirl it on to the inside of your cup. Layer a few of your banana coins onto the bottom of your cup and drop a scoop of ice cream on top. Lightly drizzle your pineapple topping onto your ice cream and place your last scoop of ice cream on top. Take your strawberries and drizzle it on top, take the rest of your banana coins and slide them into the side of your ice cream. Take your whip cream and put a nice sized portion onto your ice cream as desired. Add whatever extra toppings you may want on to your ice cream at this point.
Now for your crowning achievement in the culinary arts to be complete, slowly and with great care, place the cherry on the top of your masterpiece.
