Did you know that marshmallows date back to ancient Egypt? Here are a few other things you might not have known as well as some yummy ways to enjoy these little delights. . .

Marshmallows were harvested by ancient Egyptians who extracted the gooey essence of the mallow plant and combined it with honey to make sweet candies. The treat was reserved almost exclusively for those deemed to be gods or royalty. The confection we affectionately call “the marshmallow” was actually created by the French during the mid 19th century by combining egg whites, water, sugar and marshmallow root before molding into sweet candies. To prevent them from sticking together they were dusted lightly with cornstarch. Nowadays, gelatin is more frequently used to create these sweet treats.

Making your own melt in your mouth Marshmallows is relatively simple- here’s a delicious tried and true recipe.
