As you pass your 20’s & 30’s you’ll find that dropping weight quickly is a thing of the past…. or is it? Check out the result’s of the 3 Day Military Diet- touted to be the best diet for dropping 10 pounds of Fat in just 3 days time and see if it actually works…

As a Mom of 2, wife of a self-employed blue collar working man I find that I have little time to myself to work out as I used too. It’s rather frustrating, if I worked out just 3 days a week for an hour, I could maintain a nice 133-136 pounds. That would have been fantastic as I hit 40! Alas, that is not the case. I thought it would be great to give this 3 day military diet a try.

If you or a loved one has ever been in the military you know that this is NOT how they eat! So where did the name come from? The military diet refers to the discipline it takes to stay on the regimen for three full days without cheating or quitting.

There are a few things to be aware of though:

First and foremost, You CAN drink as MUCH water as you want during the 3 days, you’re not losing water weight, the diet is not a diuretic aka water diet. The weight you lose should not be due to dehydration of any sort. With that said, NO you CANNOT Drink Soda, Pop, sweetened or flavored drinks of any kind. You CAN have Plain Herbal Teas (no honey, no lemon, no stevia or artificial sweeteners of any kind.

You CAN Have Black Coffee or Tea (no more than 3 cups per day), no creamers, no milk, no non-dairy creamers, etc. The key to this diet working is to be chemically balanced to boost metabolism. Also, make sure if you’re going to drink coffee that you drink the kind WITH caffeine. Decaffeinated coffee is actually pretty horrible for you, health wise.

We realize that there are food items here that don’t seem particularly healthy such as the hotdogs on day 2- we’re aware of that. They’re there for a reason, do not omit them.

It is NOT recommended to substitute certain items, such as grapefruit, Some foods that are acidic to taste, such as lemon, lime and grapefruit, are rendered alkaline once digested, placing, far less burden on the digestive system as a whole.

Military Diet Review

It can be difficult to try a new diet plan, even for just 3 days, so here’s a review of each day of the military diet meal plan as well as my results.

Day 1 Journal Entry: Here’s the thing, I like to eat. I like to try new foods, I like varying flavors; So, the thought of eating these very bland- minimal calorie meals has me scrunching up my eyebrows and hoping I can follow through! In addition to completing day 1, I’ve made a concerted effort to drink more water. In addition to my 2 cups of black coffee, I also drank 72 ounces of water.

Day 2 Journal Entry: Today wasn’t too bad, except that I have not deviated from the original diet plan by a single item! By the time that dinner rolled around, I was feeling the hunger! I kept waiting for my other half to start the grill & cook the hotdogs- but I was ready to eat them raw at that point.

After the main “meal” I happily munched the ice cream with half a banana. It really does seem to make a difference that you’re allowed to eat “junk” with the dinner meal. It seems to shut up the little voice in the back of your head that says “eat, eat”.

As for exercise, I only managed to weed the garden beds and clean up around the yard outside. I didn’t workout out all, but it wasn’t because I didn’t intend to, I just ran out of time. I’m a bit nervous about tomorrow, the meals are pretty meager. In addition to the 2 mugs of coffee, I also drank 72 ounces of water and 2 mugs of herbal dragon tea. (Unsweetened, 1 calorie per mug).

Day 3 Journal Entry: Too weak to write, just kidding. I’ve never been a big fan of processed foods (especially hotdogs!), I want a big fat salad, hahaha.

Days 4,5,6,7 Journal Entry: The first 3 days of the diet are over, I stuck it out even though on the last day I was pretty hungry and ready to scarf down a big meal. With that in Mind, I lost a grand total of 9 pounds. That’s enough to keep me focused on the next week.

The next four days are “eat normal” days. For me, that means mostly salads, lean meats, and NO sugar, flour, white rice, white potatoes or corn. These items have a tendency to cause intense cravings for me personally.

The point of the diet is that you’re not starving yourself, you’re simply triggering your body to burn calories effectively.

Before substituting the ingredients ask yourself if you REALLY need to, keep in mind that you need to match caloric intake rather than quantity.

Now, Onward to the 2nd time around, don’t substitute more than 1 item per “meal” or you won’t see any results.

    • I cannot have grapefruit as I take a statin. Is there a trade off?

One grapefruit isn’t going to hurt you.
It just hinders absorption of Statin.
      One day won’t matter.

      • One grapefruit isn’t going to hurt you.

        One day won’t matter.

You can play with your health if you want to. I can’t eat grapefruit either, but not for the same reason. I can’t eat anything acidic, including apples, caffeinated anything, and many other things.

So I would have to do multiple substitutions

    • My doctor advised that if you eat grapefruit take your Statin no less than 8 hr later which works out as I take my Statin at night prior to bedtime.

    • I cannot have grapefruit as I take a statin. Is there a trade off?

I can’t eat grapefruit either. Interested to see if there is a suitable substitute even though the article says not to.

    • I cannot have grapefruit as I take a statin. Is there a trade off?

Yes. Use I believe it’s a spoon of baking soda stirred in a cup of water

    • I cannot have grapefruit as I take a statin. Is there a trade off?

The only acceptable substitution is to mix 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda in water and drink it.

    • I cannot have grapefruit as I take a statin. Is there a trade off?

I read that you really can’t exchange grapefruit with any other fruit. Especially not an orange, because it does the exact opposite of what a grapefruit does. It also said that in order to get the same out of a grapefruit you would mix baking soda in water and drink it.

    • I believe it stated that there was not a substitution. But its the scidity they were wanting to get into the diet. Maybe do one orange instead?

Hmmm, I don’t remember anything about Avocado in the 3 day diet. 🙂 :smile1:

    • I cannot have grapefruit as I take a statin. Is there a trade off?

Maybe another citrus fruit that is 45 calories.

  1. can we put anything in the tuna? Mayo has a lot of fat and calories, but tuna is just gross without something to add moisture and flavor. Any suggestions?

Instead of canned tuna, you can do a filet and after it’s cooked, measure out the amount you can eat…but if you grill it, grill it on a bed of lemons or squeeze lemon juice on it. Also pepper or any seasonings you like help alot.

Relish is many times traditionally added to tuna with mayo. Skipping the mayo is tough, but relish with some pepper and breaking it down to mush might help.

I did the 21 day fix and there was a recipe where you added Dijon mustard, celery and small pieces red peppers to the tuna.

It didn’t sound very tasty but it was…my husband even liked it. I’m not sure if it’s allowed on this diet but it will give the tuna better appeal.

I put a small amount of red vinegar. We used to always add tuna to our antipasto and we used vinegar as a dressing. It’s really good.

I don’t know about this diet, but in general, when I make up tuna for sandwiches I put in chopped
green or black olives ( or both), pickle, chopped onion, a little prepared mustard, pimento if I have it.

  2. I did this diet many years ago with my sister. It did work, but it took 20 years before I said, “Hmmm, maybe I could try it again”

    • What can I substitute for cottage cheese?

it mentions above not to add lemon or anything to the tea so i’m assuming lemon tea would not suffice.

true….i was thinkin’ the same ’bout the tea!! sooo no what?!

    • I don’t drink anthing with caffeine. .what can I substitute for the coffee n tea???

Try putting a sliced strawberry or an orange slice with a slice of cucumber in a quart of water overnight. Remove the solids next morning and enjoy refreshing, no calorie flavoured water. You can do this also with peaches, pears, etc.

if you have someone who can eat the rest. On a diet like this a strawberry leaves no cut fruit to waste.

    • I don’t drink anthing with caffeine. .what can I substitute for the coffee n tea???

Teeccino is an herbal coffee/tea made from dandelion and other herbs so it is caffeine free. The Vanilla Nut and Chocolate flavors are great.

      All natural herbs and spices.

    • I don’t drink anthing with caffeine. .what can I substitute for the coffee n tea???

      Herbal (non-caffeine) tea

    • I don’t drink anthing with caffeine. .what can I substitute for the coffee n tea???

Nothing. Caffeine is an integral part. It’s to stimulate your metabolism

Thank you for your comment. We actually have studied coffee quite extensively, particularly since we grow several varieties of our own. Decaffeinating coffee takes place using a solvent.

Studies show that decaf coffee increases the risk of heart attacks. It tends to increase the levels of LDL cholesterol, which ultimately makes you prone to heart diseases, attacks, and heart failures . Reducing intake of decaf coffee will help in controlling plasma homocysteine levels and preventing coronary issues.

According to several studies, bone minerals have an alkalizing effect on the chronic metabolic acidity. When acidity levels are high in the body, it leads to a negative calcium balance and depletion of the mineral aka- drinking decaf leads to Osteoporosis.

Decaffeinated coffee can cause more acidity than the regular one. It can also cause gastroesophageal reflux. Its ability to cause hyperacidity may lead to a greater risk of developing ulcers.

It Stimulates gastrin levels. Gastrin is a hormone that boosts the release of acid in the stomach . It also increases the secretion of trypsin. Chronic stimulation of the exocrine pancreas by secretagogues could result in a gland susceptible to carcinogenesis.

So I’m not quite sure where/how you got the idea that Decaf coffee is healthier, other than commercials that say less caffeine is better, but if I were grabbing a cup of Joe right now it definitely WOULDN’T be decaf!

    • Please check your facts about decaffeinated coffee. It is still good for you and has basically the same health benefits.

Well, sure….if you consider formaldehyde good for you. The processing to make coffee or tea decaffienated is what is bad for you. No thank you.

      2) The Direct–Solvent Based Process. In this method of decaffeination the beans are steamed for about 30 minutes in order to open their pores. Once the coffee beans are receptive to a solvent, they are repeatedly rinsed with either methylene chloride or ethyl acetate for about 10 hours to remove the caffeine.

If you don’t mind the added chemicals I suppose in the process to decaffinate.

Check again. Decaf coffee is flavored with the same contents found in formaldehyde.

As long as it’s from a company that decaffeinates using the water process and not the formaldehyde process.

I read somewhere that they use some nasty chemicals when they process the caffein out of the coffee. You might check that out!

Actually unless you drink an organic swisswater method decaffeinated coffee, then yes it is very bad for you. The way decaf coffee is typically made is using chemicals. Which time makes the decaf coffee full of chemicals. Therefore, bad for you!!

That’s because it’s short term, you’re not eating enough calories, you’re likely losing muscle mass rather than fat.

I’m on day two and not snacking, only because it doesn’t say we can and the article says it’s a military strict Diet. It lists the calories per day. This is 1200 calorie day.

    • Ok day one was not bad at all felt good. Was real excited for ice cream. Im on day 2 and my question is can we snack ?

Lol…. Can’t anybody read? Not only is there a large section for substitutions, it’s also been answered/repeated about 100 times in the comments.

Stop trying to get everybody else to do the work for you.

With that mentality, your diet’s bound to fail.

  21. I can’t eat grapefruit due to a history of ulcers. What can I substitute? Also I can’t eat red meat or raw fruits and vegetables.

try putting it in a blender with herbs and make it into a ranch dressing. there’s a lot of things then you can use it for.

yes there was an answer for that substitution. it’s common sense…..eat some kind of protien with the same amount of calories. chicken, tuna…..etc.

    • There is a sub for that… see the sub list in the article. Substitutions are egg, plain Greek yogurt, cheddar cheese and ricotta cheese.

  26. People- they answered the grapefruit question TWICE Already. Grapefruit is Alkaline, if you can’t eat it, add 1 tsp of baking soda to a glass of water and drink it.

As for Tuna- it’s a lean protein, use the lean protein substitute list.

no you can’t add anything “extra” to any of the items if you want the same results.

no you can’t “snack” on anything during the day if you want the same results.

it’s a balance and it’s only for 72 hours. You can do it, if you want it bad enough.

also i’m assuming no mixing in spinach & mushroom or any other vegetable with the egg on egg meals?

    • You can play with your health if you want to. I can’t eat grapefruit either, but not for the same reason. I can’t eat anything acidic, including apples, caffeinated anything, and many other things.

So I would have to do multiple substitutions

grapefruit is not acidic, it is alkaline.

the majority of fruits are considered to be alkaline producing foods. anything with a ph greater than 7 is considered to be alkaline and is non-acidic. When it comes to foods, it is not the acid in the food that matters, but rather what occurs in your body once the food is consumed.

For example, citrus fruit flesh and juice are acidic, but in your body they are alkaline-producing foods.

lemons, limes, avocados and kiwi are categorized as highly alkaline fruits and are therefore non-acidic. other non-acidic fruits include bananas, cantaloupe, apples, coconut, grapefruit, grapes, oranges and watermelon.

      education is a wonderful thing.

  27. I seen where you can sub for everything but nothing noted for green beans. On day 1. Thought i had green beans but dont.

So any sub for green beans?

  28. Can u put lemon on the tuna? Also for the 3 oz of any meat. Can we marinate the meat or just use seasonings?

I love lemon chicken but wasn’t sure if the lemon would mess up the diet.

  29. I guess ill give it a go. I need to lose wieght and working out everyday didnt do anything. I didnt even lose one pound.

So ill give it a go

  30. I see the substitutions for everything else but nothing for the grapefruit. Is there anything or just cut it out completely?

  31. I don’t really care for coffee or tea, is this really needed to be drank during the 3 days or would I be ok without it?

  32. Has anyone done this multiple times and if so – did you have the same success- is the usual 4 days off and 3 days on? And when goal weight met, is there a maintenance program?

  33. there are 5 pages of dumb fuckers asking the same questions. read the whole fucking article it has substitutions. if it aint on the list you cant have it.

    • what about type 2 diabetes

It is highly unlikely you’ll get diabetes from eating this diet for 3 days, but should you have concerns you should ask a doctor.

I can NOT eat any processed meat like bologna, hotdogs ( no matter if they are tofu, turkey , etc. ) 0r bratwurst . What can I eat instead?

see the list of substitutes in the article. turkey is only processed meat if you buy processed meat. use real turkey, end of problem.

      🙂

so after the third day you go back to the first days meal plan ? say i want to do it for a week or two..?

no, after the 3rd day you stop eating junk food and go on a Healthy Eating Plan for the remaining 4 days. Then do it again if you need another boost to get you started in the right direction. You should really consider following the Fitness for Life plan that Liss created, I lost 28 lbs on it.

There’s a link in the article.

My medicines state no grapefruit, what can I substitute?

Large Glass of water with 1 tsp of Baking soda to create/match the alkalinity of the grapefruit. Btw, if you take your statins at night, one grapefruit likely wont hurt, so ask your doctor what he/she thinks.

  44. Ok, so do you have the coffee or tea all three days? If so my coworkers are going to hate you because I had too work through SERIOUS withdrawal on Day 2 and 3. Ha!

  45. For those Wondering about grapefruit, read the comments, it’s been answered numerous times already.

why would they keep re-answering the same question and cluttering up the thread with the same answers over and over. that’s why it’s so long, people don’t bother to read before asking.

  46. I just completed the 3 days. I probably broke my scales from before because it can’t make up its mind. I lost between 3.5 and 5 lbs.

All in all I feel better! My shirts fit better and my pants fit better! That’s enough to keep me going!

I’d say you could do 1/2 cup of cottage cheese & 1/2 slice of cheddar since those seem to be interchangeable?

  49. Going to give this a try tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes. Sounds promising and interesting.

It would be a great motivator for me.

  50. My question is, can you have a small amount of hot sauce with your eggs in the meal plan? I’m not a big plain egg kind of person and I love my Texas Pete with them.

  51. Oh my shit …does anyone on this forum know how to read …huge list of substitutions at the end of the main diet plan. Had to be one of the most frustrating Q&A I’ve ever read . There are some legit questions but have to read through all the bullshit dummy questions cause people are to freaking lazy to read …if you’re that darn lazy no wonder ya need to diet ……read folks read

  52. Hi everyone!

I’m so excited about this I am starting it today, have been doing well with weight loss by dieting and exercising and hit a plateau, thought I’d give this a shot to shake things up!! The hardest part for me will be not drinking coffee on day 2 & 3! It’ll be hard to wake up & get motivated for the day!

I’ll post my results on the morning of day 4!
I’d love to hear results of how this is working for everyone!!

  53. I cannot eat grapefruit with the medication I take. Also I can’t stand coffee or tea can I drink water instead?

  54. This is the Cleaveland Clinic Diet been around for years this diet works I stayed at healthy weight majority of my life using this plan weekly.

  55. “You CAN Have Black Coffee or Tea (no more than 3 cups per day), no creamers, no milk, no non-dairy creamers, etc. The key to this diet working is to be chemically balanced to boost metabolism.”

Listed above is the second paragraph of the instructions for this diet. It seems to me that you can have coffee or tea each day as long as it is no more than 3 cups per day.

Also, substitutions are listed for nearly every item so I’m also annoyed that so many people continue to ask the same question that has already been answered or is actually listed in the article. Tons of questions in this thread because people did not read the complete instruction.

I understand allergies and medication issues but if you are just looking for a substitute for something because you don’t like it, well…..just wow!!

i agree with the other posts that a lot of people are too lazy to read the entire article, why are so many people not reading the article or instruction completely before asking questions. it’s unbelievable how many people are such picky eaters that they cannot even follow a meal plan for a few days. i sincerely hope that these people are never stranded somewhere in a storm, disaster, etc.

and need to rely on whatever food is available. it’s really amazing what you can eat if you choose to.

solution: just follow the diet with the included meal plan and/or substitutions or don’t! it’s your body, do you want to lose the weight or not?? pretty simple really.

sorry about the rant, but it’s just amazing to me that so many people cannot follow instruction and/or b*tch about everything! the choices are clearly listed above in the event of a substitution necessity, my thought would be that you would substitute for an allergy or medical/medication issue. not just because you don’t like it!

dang! suck it up buttercup and lose the weight or continue making excuses and don’t!

i have personally done this diet and it really works if you follow the instruction. substitute if you must for medical reasons, but if you can actually follow this plan you will see results, and i did drink coffee each day.

  56. The daily intake calories are not calculated correctly. For instance, 2 slices of bread has 120 calories, one slice only has 60, so in that case are we allowed to eat 2, or it was that a misprint. Also, 1/2 cup tuna has 90 calories, not 150.

    Please clarify. Thanks.

No, it’s not a misprint, it entirely Depends on the Brand. This is based on eating fresh tuna, as opposed to canned.

Again, the calories in a slice of bread is entirely dependent on the brand.

That’s why Calories are provided, to give you an idea of the max calories expected per meal, per day.

  57. hi i am ladystarz, and as i see a lot of questions on here, and not a lot of information on how it worked out for everyone, so i thought i would blog each day of this diet for the first week.

    i am 57 years old, 5’7″ height

Now I know many people will look at this diet and say oh “its water weight” or its never gonna work, or its unhealthy, etc etc. But I have confirmed on several sites that this is NOT water weight loss. But to me, this looks like the diet of my dreams, 3 days on, 4 days off…YES!

    “Totally Doable” I think! lol

Also, they said the same thing to me about quitting smoking, I was a 30 year smoker, pack and half a day Marlboro reds, I lovvvveeeed smoking and everything about it, but i couldn’t get off the couch and i could feel it sucking the life out of me. I do not believe in the “pain to gain” methodology of anything. i believe in “imagine it, see it, believe it is possible, imagine you are already there” and find a way to make it work that is totally doable.

i walked in to a place that performed “laser acupuncture”, i know you have never heard of it right? well i walked in a smoker and walked out a non-smoker and never looked back. i call it the blue light special, cuz that is all it was, a blue light on the end of a stick.

sucked on hard candies for a week and crocheted a hat to keep my hands busy for two weeks, no pain, no withdrawal, nada. but of course anything that works that well, will never get any advertisement cuz that would put so many businesses out of business. anyway i look for what works and make no prejudgments if i can.

i work from home now in my easy chair (worst mistake of my life purchasing one of these chairs) now so i eat all day all night mostly boredom i guess ,and i have really packed on the weight. i am very excited about the military diet, as i have tried cooking mediterranean, asian, other diets and i have to say, i am not a good cook, i hate cooking and being on my feet in the kitchen. i hate recipes that have 100 different ingredients , none of which I have, and its always so expensive, and since my husband won’t eat anything outside of “comfort food”, making two different meals for each of us proved impossible.

So when I came across the military diet, i got excited, and shopped specifically for the items above which was an easy list, and not expensive. So here goes….

    DAY 1

Here is how the first day went:

I read on other site pages of the Military Diet that it didn’t matter if you wanted to save certain parts of meals for later, and I am not sure if this is true, it could cost me in the end, but knowing my hunger schedule, I went ahead and did that in order to maximize my ability to stay on this diet. It may end up that it ruined it and my weight loss efforts, but I am hoping its mostly about the calorie count more than when I eat what part of the menu.

So for breakfast which wasn’t till like 10 am

I had the half a grapefruit
I had the full cup of coffee
And based on a ” tip ” from someone else here in this site, I bought a package of a dozen of the little Breyer Vanilla Cups 100 cals each, since the ice cream is good for 200 calories on Day 1 according to above chart, that gives me two (2) of the Vanilla cups for use on day 1, so I used a portion of one the cups of Breyer Vanilla ice cream as “creamer” for my black coffee cuz i have no taste for black coffee, yuck. That worked out pretty well, not great, but well enough to drink the coffee!

I waited an hour before eating the peanut butter and toast 11:00 am, I used only 1 of the 2 allotted tablespoons of peanut butter (organic) and saved 1 tablespoon of peanut butter for later with my apple as I knew i would need it. I applied 1 tablespoon of peanut butter to my white toast and ate that and ate it like an open faced sandwich.

I used white bread cuz that is all i have and that I like, and the calories for my bread were a little under the allotment above for the bread so I feel good about that.

I also made a cup of herbal tea sometime later using real tea leaves “morning mate and jasmine dragon pearls”.

Morning went by pretty well that way. Felt satisfied for hunger.

By 2:00 I was ready for lunch and fairly hungry, so i applied half a can of tuna to the top of 1 slice of toast like an open face sandwich, i put some pepper on it and some Dill Weed which i normally use in tuna fish, I looked it up and it was zero calories, however it is not on the list above, so I don’t know how that will affect my results. I would not follow my lead till you hear about my results. Anyway, it tasted pretty good.

I also made my 2nd cup of coffee and used another 1/3 of my first vanilla ice cream cup as creamer in my coffee.

Later I had another cup of herbal tea re-using morning mate and dragon pearls tea leaves. Somehow I felt that it was less calories that way, even though it should be almost no calories.

As the afternoon wore on I got VERY hungry, so I ate my half of banana early and waited til 7:00 to eat my dinner.

Dinner time came and I steamed my green beans (i have to say they never tasted so good, i was so hungry) and i had purchased this “dual filet mignon package each wrapped in bacon”, I noticed the calorie count on each piece of meat was quite a bit less than the menu prescribed above and when i cooked 1 of 2 filets for dinner, it was reduced in size to about 2 inches round, not the size of a deck of cards as suggested above, lol, but i went with it.

I also got my apple which was normal size, not small, and the other 1 tablespoon of peanut butter i saved. I am hoping the difference between the meat calories i was allotted and the size of the apple will all work on in the wash so to speak. I carved up that little piece of meat as small as possible and chewed every bite as long as possible.

The apple with the 1 Tbsp of peanut butter was a life saver. I finished my meal, i would not say i was satisfied but we will see how the rest of the night goes. I stay up very late and all I have left is my other vanilla cup of Breyers ice cream.

I have drank a bottle of water, and also had a glass of water with a little lemon slice (not on the menu) during dinner. I also had at least 2 or 3 herbal teas during the day (reusing the real tea leaves each time, not using new) and will probably have another one at least as the night wears on. I am not clear if this is helping or hurting me, as my daughter once told me drinking tea all day as I do increases your appetite.

I am definitely looking forward to my ice cream cup later but i will try and wait as long as possible to eat it as i am always munching at night, this will hopefully be my savior.

On another site referencing the military diet it said a couple ways to “maximize your diet” is to do ALL your eating in one 8 hour period so u are fasting for the other 16 hours of the day. I have not done that, as the first day is proving harder for me, but maybe in future weeks I may be able to have that discipline as my portion sizes get reduced over the long term. I also heard sitting in a sauna or jacuzzi at 104 degrees for 15 minutes is good for 100 calories same as a two mile run.

More my style LOL. It also said to walk 30 minutes a day, i walk the dog, probably not for 30 minutes, but maybe 20, not briskly.

So except for my ice cream cup, this is the end of my first day, it is only 8 pm, I usually stay up til 2 am, lol, we will see how the rest of the evening goes, maybe i will take a jacuzzi. lol

Talk to ya’ll tomorrow on Day 2.

    hugs!

    • I am really anxious to see how Day 2 went. I am planning on starting this on Monday (for some reason starting on Mondays seems to work best for me), so will pick up the food on the weekend.

  58. At beginning of article it says ‘no milk/dairy’, but then says you can substitute 1 cup milk for eggs??

  59. Do you have to. eat your dinner meal ALL at once. Or can wait to eat the dessert portion a little later

    well its day 2 … in a word..rough!

Woke up and had breakfast at around 10 am, I didn’t save anything cuz I was too hungry. So I ate

1 egg- sunny side up and put it on my 1 slice of toast and ate it like an open face sandwich. And I also ate my 1/2 banana.

I know we couldn’t use any fat or butter to cook the egg so I got out my new “copper pan” as seen on tv, and cooked my egg in that, it worked mostly, um so so but i got most of my egg back, lol and believe me I want every little bit of that egg cuz I am really hungry. It was satisfying enough for the moment.

I was a little confused on whether or not I could have coffee or tea or herbal tea at all, as I noticed it was not on the menu for day 2, so I didn’t have any.

I went out to the fish store and it was kind of hot in there and i felt somewhat faint. I came home and could not wait for lunch although it was about 2 pm. I have had a little bit of a headache around the edges all day, I am assuming due to no caffine intake.

I also normally take a prescription Prilosec every day for gerd/heartburn. But I haven’t been taking any for two days because I was afraid it would impact the diet results. Well at the fish store, my heartburn was coming on strong so I took two tums, I am hoping it doesn’t negatively affect my diet results, but I fear it will.

I got home and had my lunch of

    1 cup of cottage cheese
    1 egg- scrambled
    5 saltine crackers

And again used my new as seen on tv copper pan. Again I was starving and i savored every bite.

I could not make it all the way to dinner without something so I ate my dinner time half a banana early.

When dinner came I thought i had broccoli and carrots and I did but it was a bit wilted so i washed it off the broccoli and used to two small baggies of baby carrots snack bags i had in the fridge which was probalby a few more carrots than i was alloted. I quick steamed them in rice cooker. I do not like broccoli but a little salt and pepper goes a long way, the carrots tasted good though and of course the two hot dogs were like heaven, who knew hot dogs could taste so good!

I could have eaten four more.

I walked the dog a very short way, it was very hot outside and i was feeling weak anyway. I also took a nap and finally made some herbal tea, “morning mate and dragon pearls” which I am still not entirely sure if its all green tea or green/black tea. I will have at least two more cups before the day is over but I am using the same tea leaves for each cup.

I didn’t get any work done the last two days, if I had to go to a job in the office, I don’t know if I would do better or worse as I would at least be distracted.

I am hoping i will make my three days and I hope my results will not be tainted by the Tums I have had to take for my heartburn, as I had to take another two before dinner. I am just hoping for the best.

I still have my single vanilla Breyers ice cream cup for this evening, though I am sure I will eat it much sooner than later, as I am jonesing for a bowl of captain crunch cereal in a really big way, lol, must be sugar withdrawal.

Tomorrow is Day 3 and it can’t be over soon enough. Of course I have imaginings of doing this every week for 5 weeks and losing 50 pds in a month and half, of course that is probably not realistic and dependent upon my results after 3 days will probably dictate my enthusiasm to continue on with this schedule, but I will hope for the best!

I also had a bottle of water and will probably have another before night is over.

Ok its 7: 30 and I have to have at least half my vanilla cup of ice cream. I will try to save half for later.

    Talk to you all tomorrow!
    hugs!

  61. I weigh 175 & am 5′ 10″. My son is getting married a week from this Saturday. I have been working on losing 10# & have lost 4#.

I’m going to do this & my dress will look even better! 😊
Will start Friday & post results Monday!

  62. I’m on day 2 of this diet.
I have a pounding headache so I’ve been drinking plenty of water and had a black tea.
I am surprised at how bloated I’d been feeling before starting this yesterday, fingers crossed I lose something this week. My hubs weighed me in, I couldn’t look, I’ll weigh in Friday morning without looking, he can tell me if I’ve lost anything.

I’m in denial, I don’t want to know how fat the scales say I am….
I don’t eat fish so substituted the tuna for chicken yesterday and I’ve stuck to the food plan without snacking on anything.
I work from home and I’m still wandering to the kitchen due to boredom (I eat when stressed or bored) I cannot believe how many times I’ve found myself in the kitchen, no wonder I’m fat if I’m going in there as often but without realising it.
Yesterday was my sons birthday, he made his own birthday cake this year, roll on Friday when I can scoff the lot with a pint of double cream for breakfast, half joking, but I could eat a horse right now, except I won’t because my jeans are feeling good.
I can’t find any information that says how long this lifestyle plan/diet is for.

Is it for as long as you want, until you reach your ideal weight, for life or just a quick fix? I’d not actually thought of an end plan. Maybe I’ll do this until I’m not bulging out of my bra……

  63. Alright I gave in, I saw this about 10x’s and figure what the hell do I have to Lose? So, I bought the items I needed, which I have to say were pretty damn cheap and easy on the grocery budget. It cut our weekly spending down about $50 lol.

Day 1- so easy, I was amped man, I mean AMPED. Nothing was going to hold me back from going into this full throttle. Easy.

Day 2- Yeah, so I worked in the garden a little longer than I should have, lugged a few more bags of mulch than I should have and worked up an appetite. 2 Hotdogs huh, just 2? I bet I could eat the entire package in 1 sitting and hell, I don’t even feel like cooking them first. But, I suppose that’s probably how I acquired such a vast ass to begin with.

Day 3- I’m kind of a bitch on day 3, Did I mention I fucking hate tuna? Well, I ate that nasty shit anyway. no pain, no gain.

i don’t think i’ve ever drank this much water in my life. i’m staying hydrated, that’s for damn sure. all i can say is this is like pms..

on steroids, so stay out of my way today.

day 4- the Weigh in. Holy jesus jumped up Christ, I lost 8.5 pounds!! Water weight loss my ass, I drank over 2 gallons in 3 days.

My pants are slipping off my waistline! Okay, so now I’ve decided I’m going to do this every Mon-Tues-Wed for an entire month and eat regularly (But healthy!) on Tues-Sunday. My goal is 50 lbs in 3 months.

    Thanks for sharing this!

    addendum to day 2 –

Because of my confusion about whether or not I could have caffeine and didn’t have any black tea which i normally drink all day long, I ended up with a migraine 2nd day evening, i took a jacuzzi and it helped somewhat. I also want to mention i was feeling blue on day 2 and popped a vitamin D 2000 mg without thinking about it. And of course I had ended up taking 6 tums before the day was over due to my Gerd/Heartburn issues.

My nights sleep was a disaster, my dog has allergies and lick lick lick and my husband came home from an 18 hour drive and was a snore train, so with my head ache i finally changed rooms, and woke up with still a little headache this morning after some excedrin migraine (2) and tiger balm and a facial ice pack.

I ate my cheese and crackers and apple this morning. My apple was normal size, however I only by pink lady apples as they are the apples that give the highest boost to metabolism over all other apples and they taste really good too.

i did have two cups of black tea this mornign and will probably have a 3rd. I am hoping this diet will still work cuz the headache is too much to go without caffiene.

I am on DAY 3, slept til 11 am due to bad nights sleep and ate breakfast right away. Had black tea and used a little bit of today’s ice cream as creamer.

I am excited that it is Day 3, I could not do this for a sort of never ending diet that so many people do. But my husband just came home with a coffee frappacino for me from starbucks, omg, it was the hardest “no” i have ever done, but i am determined to see this through.

more later…is it lunch time yet!
    hugs

  65. My wife and I did this diet 2 weeks ago. I lost 5lbs in three days, and 10 lbs in a week. We currently are on day 2 of a second go round.

well its day 3 … I am so happy its Day 3

Still have headache, i had to drink three cups of black tea this morning, and used a little of my vanilla ice cream for creamer. I also had my TILLAMUCK cheddar cheese and crackers and apple for breakfast, and the toast and sunny side up egg on my toast like an open face sandwich. It was good, still havent been able to completely shake this headache.

I couldn’t make it to dinner, so I had my allotted dinner banana for a snack on the way to dinner, so by the time i got to dinner, all i got was the tuna fish and the rest of my vanilla icecream this evening.

I had to have another cup of black tea.

Well I just don’t know if it this worked or not. I will not weigh in till tomorrow morning. Gosh I am so hoping for 10 pounds!

Visualizing 10 pounds! Can’t wait to eat something dedicant tomorrow. I will let you know the final count tomorrow morning.

well its the morning of day 4

I have done weigh in…. and its 189.5 so 4.5 pds lost. It’s not 10 and I am more than a little disappointed with that, however, I realize with my tums popping, it may have altered my body chemistry as such not working quite as well as it should.

Still 4.5 pounds in 3 days, I guess its not too bad. I am not sure how I am going to approach Day 4, 5, 6, 7, if I just try to eat normal but less portions or try to follow recipies for 4,5,6,7 from this site. I think i might need a respite to really try again next week, although i will be heart broken if by the time monday rolls around again, I have gained the 4.5 pds back.

Thats my story and if I try again next week, I will circle back for a second round, thanks for listening, take care and good luck to you all!

  68. Hey all!

So I did the 3 days, substituted the baking soda water for grapefruit (yuck), I think I’ll just suffer through the grapefruit next time! Day 2 I didn’t have coffee, that didn’t work for me so I had coffee day 3, stuck to the plan other than those 2 things above, I worked out each day, I am happy to report I lost 4.6 pounds! I’m happy with this as I had hit a plateau with my weight loss and have already been exercising and dieting!

I’m going to try this again in another week or so!

Best of luck to you all!

    Cheers!!

  69. 6lbs, without excerise. Not bad. Even if it is water wait, my stomach shrank and I am starting new habits!

    Thanks for sharing!

This is me again, I am back for round two, now i did lose 4.5 pds last week, but then had a dissappointing 4 days where I seemed to have no control, but for Round TWO I am approaching it a little more relaxed this time and I am going to try to follow the program exactly and take my prilosec as I have no choice and see what happens this time.

I am also going to pay closer attention to the calorie count as I noticed the half cup of tuna (usually considered a half can) was good for 150 calories, but then I realized my can of tuna, the whole thing was only 60 calories. I also realize that an english muffin is the same calories as a slice of bread therefore i could have had my tuna between two muffin halfs which might have tasted a little better.

The key for me will be more control on the 4 days off for the long term benefits.

We will see how this round goes…wish me luck!
    hugs!

      !

thank you for posting your details. really helpful. i’m on day 2 and so far so good.

I’m looking forward to dinner though and it is only 2! I’m using turkey hotdogs so if I go by the calories I think I can have 4! Lol!

I’m planning to watch my portions for days 4-7.

      Good luck!

  71. I really want to try this diet however I have type 2 diabetes and am worried about my sugars dropping to low. My question is, is this diet safe for diabetics ?

  72. I am having a hard time eating a cup of cottage cheese. So I want to substitute it for cheddar cheese. Do I eat one cup of cheddar cheese?

It seems like a lot to me.

well this is round 2 DAY 3

I have to say things have gone much better this time around, however, i do not know how this will turn out as i did make some changes.

first, the whole black coffee tea thing, well i drink black tea all day long so i decided, i needed to continue to do that and i did, further i use silk almond milk (not breeze that has carmageen seaweed very fattening). that would add about maybe i dunno 4 calories to each cup of tea as a whole cup of almond milk is only 30 calories to begin with. Now if this is a chemistry experiement, then maybe i have blown it, if it is however calorie count, I think I am still doing okay, skipped an apple.

I also on day one used both my tablespoons of peanut butter this time and I was fuller longer. I also notice the calorie count for icecream on day 1 is like 300 calories, so that is like 3 breyers icecream cups! Geez, i only ate two to make up for my “almond millk’.

Day 2, i forgot to buy the carrot brocolli combo, sighs, so i had two of the little organic bags of baby carrotts, i have broccolie anyway, next week i will try spinach cuz i do like spinach.

So I have had a thought, because other than the brocolli, and lack of tea with almond milk, the diet itself the food, is easy, quick , cheap and simple and mostly pretty good. Again, who knew hotdogs could taste so good. The thing i dont really enjoy is the can of tunafish.

I mean I can get through it but a tiny can of fresh bumblebee tuna chunks is great, you up that to like a cup full and it starts wearing a bit thin.

So i was thinking, tuna fish….well why can’t i change out my tuna fish for Tuna Sashimi! I love sushi, i especially love tuna sashimi, so on day 3 instead of a downer cup of tuna again, I can go out to RA or another Sushi restaurant and buy tuna sashimi to go! Now i have done the research and it depends on where you look but it looks like tuna sashimi is about 31 calories per slice, so if tuna on day 3 is worth 300 calories, thats like 9 pieces of tuna sashimi!

So Day 3 instead of being a downer dinner can be a reward dinner. I am sort of excited. I again am not suggesting anyone else follow my route as I do not know the results of all I have done, but just blogging as I go!

Honestly, having sushi 4 times a month would be a dream weight loss program lol

    hugs!

  74. I just finished this and I followed it word for word as it was written and I did not substitute ANYTHING at all on the list.

I lost 11 pounds. This is unbelievable man, I am doing it again next week.

  75. I lost 6 1/2 pounds on the diet. And to be honest, I did cheat a couple of times but it was using food on the diet, such as an evening snack of tuna or banana.

I was hungry most of the time, and doubt I could do this for more than 3 days.

That being said, I was happy to lose the wieght, It also made me slow down and enjoy the food I was eating. I’m going to continue with the smaller meals & give this a try in another week or so.

    I would recommend it.

  76. I just finished my second round of this diet! I knew from the start it was too good to be true but tried it anyway. I kept to the exact food choices and at the end of the third day only lost 2# – back to healthy eating and exercise!

  77. Alright, I just finished my THIRD round of this Military diet plan and here are my results. I feel that I ought to first say that I am in my late 30’s, weighed 165lbs starting and I am 5′ 4″.

By day #3 of the first time I was ravenous but didn’t waiver. I lost 7#’s.

Round #2 – was much easier for me as I split my foods up a bit during the day so I wasn’t hungry on the 3rd day. I lost 4#’s.

Round #3- I wasn’t sure that it was worth trying at all because I only lost 4lbs last time, but since I’ve lost 11 pounds in 2 weeks time I had to give it a go. I lost 5 More pounds!!

I am so excited. I do exercise during the week very minimally and I don’t pig out on junk food on my off days. This has really helped me to pay attention to what I am eating the rest of the week too.

    Thank you Budget101!

    • Help: I’m on day 3 of the plan. I did not lose the amount I did post day 1, post day 2. Any suggestions I can do today, to see more loss at tom.

mornings weigh in? Right now my plan is to up my water intake and walk 30 mins. Thanks!

I’m almost done with my first round and thinking about doing a second. Can you give specifics about when you did your 2nd round? Did you break in between?

      How many days?

Alright, I just finished my THIRD round of this Military diet plan and here are my results. I feel that I ought to first say that I am in my late 30’s, weighed 165lbs starting and I am 5′ 4″. Thank you Budget101!

  78. What if you didn’t lose the expected amount of weight after day 2 (I think I know why) how can I make up for it on day 3/ lose the rest (by the fourth day)? Today is my day 3.
I plan to walk 30 min and up my water🙄

  79. What should you do if you did not lose the total amount of weight after day 2? I have an idea why, but today is my day 3. How do I make today “count” to see more loss on my weight in tomorrow?

My plan is to up my water and walk 30.
Also ifeatures I don’t see the loss, should I refer to diet day 1 & continue for a 4th day?

    Thanks!

  80. I was worried that there aren’t hardly any nutrients in this diet but I suppose if a person is trying to lose large amounts of fat, they probably have an excess anyway.

    I’m going to try it.

  81. Can we break up the foods? As long as I have everything to the letter, do they have to be eaten in this specific order? Should we be finished eating at any particular time?

    (no late night)

  82. I did this diet faithfully for the 3 days. On day four i weighed myself and was disappointed with the results…. I only lost 2 lbs.

I didn’t substitute or stray from the diet in anyway…. ?

  83. I’m 69 & not very active. I have congested heart failure. I started this diet 1 wk ago.

I did it 6 days in a row… with a few “bleeps” And continued on the 7th day adding 1 bag of baked popcorn. I lost 8 lbs.
I am starting again this wk ..

already on the second day. I feel better, already sleep better, have more energy & getting more done since I’m not in the kitchen so much! Recommending to friends!

  84. I am finishing my second week of this. The first week I stuck to it exactly. Down 8.4 lbs.

I don’t think week 2 did much for me. I will weigh myself in the morning. Wish me luck as my wedding dress has no wiggle room.

At least I won’t gain weight. 22 days until the big day. If this works consistently then I will stick with it.

It gets easier. It’s only 9 meals a week 😊

  85. Tried it….lost 7 pounds! Not a bad start. The trouble is now I am afraid to eat because I don’t want to gain it back!

  86. I love this diet so far! Yes, the 1st three days are strict and at times, I was hungry…but drinking water helped. My four days off, I stayed under 1500 calories and still had a sliver of pie one day!

I already feel more energetic and less achy! I’m down 8lbs! I started week 2 and it was a little easier.

Only 50 lbs to go – I can do this!!!!

  87. I’m doing this diet and it’s working for me, I change some things, like the fruits for example, I looked up how many calories the strawberrys has;2 calories each, so the grapefruit has 50 I eat whatever amount of strawberries until 50 calories or less it feels me up or the ice cream,I bought vanilla bean flavor yogurt and is less calories so you can eat a little bit more, I lost 20 pounds in 3 weeks.

  88. I’m allergic to seafood, and therefore can’t have tuna or fish at all. What’s a good substitute for it instead?

  89. I did this diet 18 months ago and list 60 lbs. It took my about 6 months to do so. I did cheat here and there but I did not think it was hard to do.

Planning to start this again as I have gained some weight back.

  90. So far I’ve been keeping track of my calories and I’ve only eaten a total of 2363 out of the estimated 2600 calories at the end of day 2. So there is definitely room for a snack or something if the calorie intake is what’s key to this diet. But I would definitely pay attention to the items in which you eat.

But I’m trying to see what happens just sticking to the regimen that’s posted.

  91. I started this diet on Monday and currently, I am on day 3. I was really worried that I would not have energy and there would not be enough food to keep me satisfied. However, I just finished day 3 and I am still feeling good.

Day 1: I followed the diet except, my husband couldn’t find at the grocery store when he went and forgot to tell me until breakfast. So, I skipped that part of the diet. I did not find my energy low at all. I kept myself busy all day, lots of water drinking, extra walking, and did a small/light workout at the end of the day.

Day 2: I followed the diet except, my husband and I spoke about the “nutritious values” to this meal plan and decided that hot dogs should not be on the list. Instead, I ate 3 oz of steak. I also drank a lot of water and a cup of black coffee. I did a short easy 10 minute workout and since my husband and I are moving I packed up a portion of the house.

I also felt like I had normal energy this day and did not find my self struggling. I did get a little extra hungry at night – but that is our normal binge eat time so I figured that is normal and I just need to get out of that bad habit.

Day 3: I began the day weighing myself (I know I shouldn’t have, I should have waited for the big surprise – but I had to) I am down 5 lbs, I went from 163.6 to 158! I had been trying to lose weight all year and have been trying to eat healthy and workout a lot and I have not had results really until now!!! Yay.

I was dreading this day because it seems like I am not eating as much food. However, Breakfast kept me full all morning and I did not find myself hungry for food at lunch time. Yet, when I ate lunch my stomach is craving more food.

I have stuck it out this long though, have great results so far and only need to make it through another 8-10 hours before I can eat “normally” again. I will weigh myself tomorrow morning to see the 3 day results and then I will weigh myself come next Monday morning before I start my next 3 day cycle. My hope is that I will keep the weight off and not go crazy with my eating in the up coming 4 days.

Then when I start again next week, I hope for continued changes!

I am excited that I am seeing results and truly hope that this weight stays off! I will update you next week!

  92. “The next four days are “eat normal” days. For me that means mostly salads, lean meats and NO sugar, flour, white rice, white potatoes or corn. These items have a tendency to cause intense cravings for me personally. “

I’m calling BS on this paragraph. Really, that is how you “eat normal”? That is strict diet already. No one who eats like that normally would need to go to extremes drop 10 lbs.

Reducing Garbage carbs isnt strict by any sense of the imagination. I lost over 100 pounds, but like every other woman, weight can flucuate with hormone changes.

      I’m in my 40’s, I don’t drop weight in 2 minutes LOL.

  93. My friend and I just completed this eating plan. I lost 6 pounds and she lost 7! We are definitely doing this again!!

  94. Are you allowed to drink lemon water? I have a hard time drinking plain water. Also, I do not drink caffeine; will that effect the diet?
