On March 6th 2009 at about 7:25 PM, I hit a Deer or the Deer hit me..
It wasn't a pretty site. Had alot of traffic behind me and I couldn't stop. The rain was coming down, with fog in the air also. Poor me and poor Deer. The experience isn't one that I wish for anyone. What do you do to avoid this happening ? I believe I did the right thing, I slowed down as much as possible. You have to remember Deer don't usually travel alone. Where there is one there is usually 1 to 2 more. And his family that night, was waiting on the other side of the road. Animals are unpredictable, and you never know when one might decide, that it REALLY wants to be on the other side of the road. Well Mr. Buck didn't look both ways Friday night, before he decided to cross the road --and then BAM ~*%<^#> . Boy did the words come out of my mouth and then the sunken pit feelings in the stomach came, followed by the tears.
I was very thankful, I wasn't hurt...The poor Deer kept going also, but I believe he has one messed up hip and is missing alot of hair... I'm also Thankful for my insurace... The damages sooo far are $3,552. The poor Deer tore up my hood, tore off the mirror and messed up the two doors, along with also tearing off the mirror. What a site my car is, so into the shop the car went on Saturday morning. And now I'm driving a rental... For how long that I'll be driving this --I have no idea..

JoAnn, I'm so sorry to hear about your car. I've had that happen to me when my oldest was about 2 yrs. old. I did the same thing you did. At first you try to avoid it, but then it all happens at once. After I stopped I was so shaken up, I didn't know what to do. But my car did get fixed, can't say much for the deer. When I hit him, his discreeded everything in him. What a mess, glad to hear that your car is getting fixed though. I don't know about you, but I was nervous to drive to fast for hubby would laugh at me about it.

sorry to hear about the damage to your car - I have never hit a deer -one hit my husband . And the damage not good . We live in a spot there are a lot of deer. Some one hits a deer a least once a week by our house -I always feel bad for those people -drive safe and take care -Bobbi -ne

JoAnn - I'm very thankful you weren't hurt. I always have visions of the animal coming thru the windshield. Cars can be repaired but it's not always so easy for people to be repaired.

OMG, I am so glad you weren't hurt! Have they fixed your car yet? Hopefully the insurance covered it all.

Deer always seem to do more damage to cars than vice versa. But I do believe you did the right thing, deer are one of those animals that are extremely skiddish and unpredictable. Deer I've overheard heal moderately fast also. But at least you had insurance and can drive a rental until your car is repaired

JoAnn, I am so sorry to hear about your "run in" with a deer. So happy to hear that you are not injured. That has got to be a scary thing to see one coming, knowing you will hit and yet nothing you can do to stop it.

Thanks everyone---but those rascals are all over the place this year. Don't know what's going on in this area. Missed 3 more yesterday on the way to work... And these deer were very young and faster then I don't know what.... Will be careful....And keeping the eyes peeled for them....
