My folks are coming to stay next week -end and I offered to cook Thanksgiving early -so we could celebrate it . My sisiter has invited approx 10 extra people , with my family that will make 17. My problem is she does not want to bring any food or do any work and she calls every day to tell me she has invited more - and I really don't mind doing the work , but my help has been sick all week and I have been doing 12 kids every day by myself and I am beat , my house looks like a small tornado went through it and if I could get some work done it would be great , but there is lots to do a little time - any good idea's - the food cost will probably kill me because i'm sure that money will be one or two bills- and I know my sisiter is in deeper than I ,but I just want her to contribute some how - some way and when I ask she always has an excuse- does anyone have any make ahead ideas and any cleaning help will be greatly aprec lol Bobbi -ne

How about asking her to tell the people she invited to bring something for pot luck also?? If you can make ahead the yams, corn, bean then freeze them. Make the biscuits and freeze them also, if you have to bake stuff try to bake it together. I will look to see if I can think of anything else to help. You sure have alot on your hands!! God Bless you friend!!

I would really ask everyone to bring there favorite dish. And seeing you don't mind cooking --the turkey, stuffing and your main dishes everyone should be happy. Really most people don't mind bringing something. Along with that you could also ask each person what they are bringing so you can adjust the settings also. Sister doesn't really went to pinch in ---think about doing dispo. Tell her you need her to purchase the table ware. ( They really do have very pretty dispo settings). Less mess is the best in a big gathers.

Hope you gathering turns out well. keep us upto date...

Wow you sure are patient. If that was my sister I probably would have went off on her and said you invited you have to help. Disposable items are really nice and a big help. Potluck is great if you can get everyone to bring something. Good news is that a turkey will feed a lot of people. Keep us posted

I know how you feel. My brother in-law calls every year the night before Thanksgiving with a shopping list....he'll pay us back.....umhmmmm! Never see it and every year it is around $80.00+and with this years food cost, I am not doing it!
I would ask her to have everyone she invited bring a dish. There is nothing wrong with that! And she can come clean the night before. Isn't that what families are for?
Just remember the Holiday's are some of the most cherished memories, amongst all the cooking, cleaning, and stress of families we tend to forget whats most important, the time we are spending together.
I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving....

Hi all I have never blogged either however this got me going. Now this is just my opinion but I would make sure the kitchen is clean as well as the bathroom. Sweep or vacuum the rest and call it good. If your not comfortable asking others to bring a dish to pass just go for the basics. Turkey, mashed potatoes, squash maybe the green bean dish... you get my meaning. In my family its more about the get together. Trust me we all love to eat. With the basics no one will go home hungry. Hope you get things worked out
