Spring Has Arrived

My faith that spring has truly arrived got a really big boost today even though it was cold and there was still snow on the ground from yesterday’s storm.

My husband visited one of the locally owned small-chain grocery stores and found…wait for it…Fresh Green Beans!

They were prepackaged in a standard produce bag with the “Product of the U.S.A.” sticker and a sweet little price per pound for this time of year (just $1.48). The cashier had bagged them with a few heavy canned goods, which caused a little bruising on the way home.

When I opened the bag, oohs & ahs were the only sounds I could make, – you’d think I’d never seen a fresh green bean before – but it seems like it has been longer than six months since I last had fresh green beans to cook (not counting what I canned and froze last summer).

There just seems to be something special about fresh produce that isn’t available all year. Nothing comes to mind to describe the joy of preparing and the phenomenal taste of something straight from a garden.

I do, however, have one puzzling question about this good fortune…What state has had weather decent enough to produce these green goodies this early? Oh well, it doesn't matter. I love you for it!
