Spring is in the Air

I absolutely adore this time of year, the fresh smell of tilled earth as we ready the garden, the wisps of honeysuckle, jasmine and wisteria that are finally starting to blossom.
It's wonderful to have the windows open and the fresh crisp morning air wafting into the house. I only wish there were more hours in the day to spend in the garden!
I've extended my garden this year, but about 150 square feet so that I can plant more tomatoes, jalapenos and zucchinis. Last year, although fairly abundant, I didn't can nearly as many veggies as I'd hoped and as such, we've already used up most of our stores, save for the few jars of fruits and berries. Several friends and I are planning a canning party this year- so I'm really hoping that I have better luck than last year, when I lost quite a few plants while we were on vacation in Alaska.
We're also in the middle of installing a sprinkler system. Another interesting "Do It Yourself" project that will cover a little over 2 acres. Initially I called several different companies for estimates - one came in at nearly $10,000 for a 12 zone, 2 acre system. Personally, I thought the man was out of his gourd.
So, we've ordered some pipe and we'll be renting a trencher next week and installing our own system. I figure that I learn Everything else by trial and error, why should this be any different!
I'll share the design and info on the site, as well as my review of whether you should hire a pro or say to hell with it and save your money.
Hope you all have a fantastic week!
