Much Needed Vacation

Well we took a much needed vacation the last couple of weeks, to Alaska! We spent most of our time Deep Sea fishing, but also fished the Kenai River for King Salmon. While we were fishing we were able to view humpback whales, stellar sea lions, sea otters (many with pups), nesting puffins, as well as a pod of Orcas.
I, of course, took some time to peruse the prices of things and was shocked that "fresh" eggs on the roadside were priced at $5. a dozen. Utterly ridiculous food prices. It took considerable work to purchase groceries at a decent price. Frito's Corn chips (dh's faves!) were $7.86 a bag at the local Safeway store- which only solidified my resolve NOT to buy junk food, to make our own if we so desired it.
We had the opportunity to fish for Halibut (several days) and caught a plethora of fish including, yelloweye (red snapper), quill fish, china, skate (utterly useless- but fun to fight!), salmon and a few others.
It's serious business when you're fighting a 90lb fish that's 250+ feet deep! At the other end of this lovely pole was a 90 pound Skate- which looks alot like a sting ray with sharp blades down its back and tail.
We met the official mayor of Talkeetna (which is the town you must go through if you wish to climb Mt McKinley!), who just happens to be a Cat named Stubs. (No shittin' folks!). He was elected via write in ballot.
All in all, it was an amazing trip full of interesting people, sites and a few hairy moments - including an earthquake that measured 5.6, but I'll save those notes for another day.
