Magic Erasers- Making Your Own

I absolutely love those magic erasers they sell in the little boxes of 6 for about $3, they work awesome for cleaning just about anything! But I cannot stand the price so I started researching what they are made of to see if I could make my own and guess what? They are really SIMPLE and CHEAP to make!

Magic erasers are actually just melamine foam which can be purchased on ebay or amazon for a lot less than the store bought stuff.

That’s right, in order to make your own all you need to do is purchase LESS expensive Pure melamine foam and cut it into the size you want it to be.

If you want to make it even MORE potent, you can boil 1 cup of water, remove from heat, add 3 Tbs borax powder, stir until dissolved.

Cool 10 minutes, dip the “homemade” magic eraser into the solution, and scrub anything you want to.

Keep in mind, the borax solution isn’t really necessary, it just adds a cleaning boost.

I literally just bought enough to make 100 Magic Erasers for less than $10. Do you make your own?

  1. So glad you posted this! I love the magic erasers, but don’t want to pay the price for something that won’t last that long. Gonna try this!

  2. Will try this, but my biggest concern with Magic Erasers is that they are really just a light abrasive, so they are scratching the dirt off of what you’re cleaning. The issue with that is that you can take the paint off your cabinets if you do it often enough, or ruin other surfaces. And no matter what anyone tells you, NEVER clean a whiteboard with one, because you will take off the protective coating and it will never erase correctly again.
