Repurpose leftover cardboard box into an adorable owl!

Recovery Workshop! Here’s a great way to recycle or repurpose an old cardboard box into adorable owl decor. This entire project takes about 15 minutes per owl and they can be made in any size you desire, from tiny tree ornaments to life size!

The materials for this owl are all household items, or scavenged items from the yard (such as the twigs for the feet!) making this adorable ornament entirely recycled from repurposed items with the exception of the glue used to secure it together.

You’ll Need:

Corrugated Cardboard, Cut into strips
Black Buttons or beads (eyes)
Glue
Scissors
**Optional White Acrylic Paint
To Form the Body/Belly:

For the body Cut cardboard into 2″ strips, then form it into a circle by rolling the cardboard tightly. Once formed secure it with hot glue. Gently press the center to make the belly stick out a little bit.

To Form the Eyes:

For the eyes, cut the cardboard strips into 1″ wide strips then form it into a circle by rolling the cardboard tightly. Once formed secure it with hot glue. Gently press the center to make the eye slightly recessed. Attach a black bead in the center of the eye using hot glue. If you’d like to give the appearance of a pupil add a tiny dab of white paint to each button/bead.

Draw a heart on a 4″ wide piece of cardboard cut it out, then cut in half to form each wing. Gently peel away one layer of the paper to create a textured surface on each wing, then attach the circle flap on each side.

Fold a small triangle from a leftover piece of cardboard to form a beak, attach it with a dab of glue.

If you’d like you can create Egrets (eyebrows) by cutting narrow thin triangles and affixing them with hot glue directly above each eye.

Cut a triangle shape for the tail and attach to the rear with hot-glue. If you’d like to add feet you can use pipe cleaners or pieces of twigs.
