Commercial Baby powder contains talc- which has been proven to cause cancer, particular vaginal/ovarian cancers, as well as others. It’s generally not recommended for use on women.

You’ll note that this recipe is talc free and cornstarch free. Cornstarch is frequently used in powder recipes, but since it’s often made with GMO corn, we’ve opted to go GMO free as well. White Kaolin clay is a very versatile base for a body powder and is wonderful for those with sensitive skin due to it’s mild properties. Arrowroot powder has a very similar texture and absorbency as cornstarch powder, but again, does not contain GMO’s.

(Pure) Chamomile and lavender essential oils are the only known essential oils that are recommended for use on infants, but even so, it is not recommended to use them on infants under 3 months of age due to the fact that their skin is extremely sensitive and can have reactions to the oils. When my own babies were tiny, I simply added 1 Tbs of Dried Chamomile flowers to the powder and then blended it until powdered in my cheap oster blender. *Then sift it with a sifter to remove any tiny fragments that didn’t “powder”)*

(makes about 1/2 cup – recipe can be doubled or tripled for larger amounts)

1/4 cup white kaolin clay (find it here)
1/4 cup arrowroot powder (find it here)
6 drops chamomile (Roman or German) essential oil (find 100% pure Roman chamomile EO hereor German chamomile here)
6 drops lavender essential oil (find 100% pure lavender EO here)

In a small bowl, combine dry ingredients and stir carefully.

Drip essential oils on top and stir thoroughly to combine.

Transfer to a powder shaker bottle a re-purposed parmesan cheese bottle with a shaker top.
