the reason why Earl Grey tea is affective over other teas is it has Oil of Bergamont i n it, it is what flavors the tea. Its also great to drink as well.

Earl Grey tea is just like the other teas, it is cut black tea, but what makes it different is it has Oil of Bergamont in it to flavor it. Its the flavoring that does the trick!

Using "regular" tea works also. My brother is a red head, and often worked outside without a shirt,(back in the 70s when we didn't think of skin cancers) and this worked great for him. Brew a real strong tea in a pot on the stove, let it cool for a bit and add a couple of trays of ice. Soak a hand towel into the now iced tea, wring it out and apply to burned area until you can feel the heat coming through the towel. Re-soak and apply until heat subsides. Works wonders.

Vinegar works too! drape a towel over the burnt area and pour the vinegar on the towel, for at least 30 mins, I generally leave it on overnight. I've had sun poison on my legs to where they were swollen more than twice their size, I did this and next morning, the swelling was gone and so was the pain.

This works! My grandson had a sunburn on his back and I steeped the Earl Grey tea, soaked a small towel, wrung it out and put on his back for about 30 minutes. This was at night. The next morning he had no pain! Yea!!!

It depends on how badly you burn. Some do, some don't.

The Japanese have been using tea to heal burns for centuries. I believe it is the tannin in the tea that helps.

I had a terrible sunburn when I was a teenager - way back in the 80's. My aunt is a nurse and advised my mom to make very strong, black tea, let it cool and use clean white sheet torn in pieces to place on my sunburn. I had large blisters on my thighs that night. My mom, a saint, got up during the night and changed the cloths every few hours. By morning, the blisters were gone and most of the pain had subsided. That was just plain of Lipton tea...

Can you make this up a day or two ahead of time or does it need to be fresh? I camp with 11 cousins and every year someone manages to get burned (either the sunscreen is old, washed off, missed a spot... no matter how we watch each other something usually gets missed) It would be nice to have on hand just in case. I just think it would be nice to not have to wait for it to cool down. Thanks!

You're actually not supposed to ever put food/drinks/condiments/spices etc, on open wounds (burns are considered open wounds) for high risk of infection. JS···

I completely disagree with this statement. Many herbs and spices that we use in our food and drinks have been used for hundreds sometimes thousands of years successfully to cure various degrees of wounds and infections. For example, cayenne pepper can be used to stop profuse bleeding within 60 sec by applying it to an open wound.

Vinegar works great too! Pour it over a shirt, towel, ect by morning the the burn's gone, it helped me with sun poisoning where my legs were so swollen I though they were going to split, I drapes a towel over each leg and had the wife pour the vinegar over them, next morning , no swelling, no burn, no pain....
