• Chicken or Turkey Gravy Mix

Create your own simple make ahead Chicken or Turkey Gravy mix to have on hand for fast, lump free, delicious gravy in under 3 minutes.

Gravy mix range in price from .79¢- $1.99 at the store, depending on the brand you choose, but almost all of them contain freaky ingredients including Corn Syrup Solids, Disodium inosinate, guanylate, and Hydrolyzed soy. Quite frankly, I don't want any of those things in my body.

I do, however, like the convenience of having gravy mixes on hand, particularly during the busy workweek when we're struggling to get a decent meal on the table after a long stressful
day at work. So, we simply created our own homemade gravy convenience mix. The addition of poultry seasoning to the mix gives it a burst of herbs and seasonings that enhance the dish.

    You'll Need:
1 1/3 cups instant nonfat dry milk powder
3/4 cup instant flour (I use Wondra)
3 tablespoons instant chicken bouillon granules
    1 tsp Poultry Seasoning

    1/4 teaspoon ground sage
    1/8 teaspoon ground thyme
    1/8 teaspoon ground pepper

    1 tsp Turkey Seasoning

Combine milk powder, instant flour, bouillon granules, thyme, sage and pepper. Mix welling well. Divide into 4 small ziploc baggies, label as chicken gravy mix and add directions to complete.

    Makes 4 Gravy Mixes.

    To make chicken gravy:

    2 T. Butter or Margarine
    1 cup cold water
    1/2 cup chicken gravy mix

Melt butter in small saucepan over medium heat, add gravy mix and water, whisking well. Continue stirring
with whisk until gravy is smooth and thick, about 3 minutes.

Great idea, if you don't have powdered milk, non-dairy creamer will work in a pinch. I think I will cook up a nice chicken dinner for Sunday. Now I won't have to worry about the rest of the week.

Never heard of instant flour, would regular flour work?

I might be old school and this is probably a dumb question but here goes. Wouldn't adding liquid to hot melted butter be like adding liquid to hot grease, a painful and potentially dangerous fire starting hazard? Wouldn't it be better to add the powder mix to the melted butter, stir to mix well and then add the cold water?
