About Liss & Budget101.com

Miss Liss
‘Liss’, creator of Budget101.com

Hello! I’m Liss, and I love saving money on things that don’t really matter to me, so I can spend it on things that DO.

Welcome to my world of savings! I started this blog in the late ’90s as a busy mom of two little boys, struggling to get out of debt on a minimal income of less than $18K a year.

I had already reduced everything that could be trimmed, our phone bill was basic service only, no cable, etc. The only significant expense in the home that varied was the grocery bill. Luckily, I had complete control over that. I reduced our family of 4’s monthly grocery bill to under $200 a month and used the savings difference that we were already used to spending each month to pay off all our back debts.

Hence our motto, “Digging yourself out of debt, when all you have is a Spoon

You can read more about how we reduced our monthly spending in my first ebook, “How to Feed a Family of 4 or More for Less than $200 a Month” available here, and also in the 2012 Family Guide to Groceries under $250 a month, available here on Amazon.

Groceries under $250

While those two resources have been the cornerstone for our site, during the major changes our country underwent due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I released a 10-step e-course guide, completely free.

What is Budget101.com™ today?

While I initially started Budget101.com™ to share affordable recipes to reduce the grocery budget, it quickly became apparent that there were other ways to save cash, including household tips-n-tricks, cleaning recipes, laundry tips and do it yourself projects.  Budget101.com™ encompasses all of these areas and many more.

It’s an extensive resource to help you save money so you can afford to do the things that bring you joy. For me, that was being able to help my sons pay for college when I wasn’t afforded that opportunity. It was paying off our home by the age of 30. It was learning how to travel at amazingly reduced rates.
