The one tradition that I love is decorating our tree. I believe your
tree should be a history of your life. So every year I had a new
ornament for each of my children that reflected something they did
that year. This was the one gift they were able to open on Christmas
Eve. It ended up that we all talked about the new memories we
created this year and fondly reminisced about years past as we hung
to ornaments on our tree. Each ornament had a story.
My objective was two fold, first to have that history and second, was
to give them their ornaments to take with them to start their own
tree when the moved out. They all loved it and have started to buy
us ornaments each year too so our tree would not be as empty as they
started leaving the nest. Two of my three daughters have moved
out. The first thing they said was “I get to take my ornaments this
year”. It was fun and I have a feeling it will carry on as a
tradition in their homes now too!
