This is going to be a tricky situation no matter how it is handled in
the invitations. The bride should expect that there will be some
guests who simply will not be able to find or maybe even aford
babysitting. There will also be a few who just don’t understand. For
better or for worse there will likely be a few less guests in
attendance b/c of the child-free part of the invitation. A wedding is
a family event and children are a part of family so family members are
the most likely to be offended.

Here’s my question- they want a kid-free reception (I don’t blame
them, our side of the family alone has a LOT of hyper active kids that
are young), and he and his bride-to-be are unsure how to phrase it on
the invitation in a way that is polite, but firm.
