Us and my dad got a mail surveys in rural southern az and my grandmother also got one in southern california during the last census. we got different ones, the one the my grandmother got wanted all sorts of very personal finacial and asset info, we just got a very basic one and then my dad got one that was somewhere in between. we did verify that all of the different version were legitimate surveys from the census bureau but we could never figure out why “how” got “which” version.
we didn’t get any door to door people, but we did get calls trying to verify info but i did refuse to give any info because i had no way of verifying who they were or where they were from.

In all my years of living in several different cities and states, I
have never seen the US Census Bureau send out surveys, only the door to
door Census takers.
