Actually, the licensing requirements vary a lot from state to state. In some
states you can have 3 or 4 or even 5 or 6 children without being licensed. But
in some you can’t have anyone or you can have one family of any size. I can
have 4 unrelated children at any time, days, nights and weekends. I get huge
tax incentives for being open 24/7. So having a small group round the clock is
a LOT easier than getting licensed for 10 and having 10 kids for say 10-12 hours
per day. It’s more like a large family than an active business.
