Our aging VCR has taken to a regular diet of eating tapes.  We just unplug the VCR, take the top off (the screws are on the bottom) & carefully work the tape out of the mechanism, then hold the flap of the machine open while taking the tape out off the machine.   The tape will still be partly unwound.  There is a little button on the side of the tape that you can push in to lift the front flap. While you hold the flap open, you can turn the one of the reels to get the tape wound back into the case.

My son borrowed a VHS tape from a friend, and now it’s stuck in the VCR. It’s a VCR/TV combo, and has never had a tape stuck in it before. Or course it is a few years old, and out of all our tapes, it would have a borrowed tape stuck.  I am so reluctant to take it to a repair shop because the repair will probably cost more than the TV is worth.  I just want to have a tape to give back.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks.
