Fixing a Yap Box Dog- How to Stop Incessant Barking

For those of you with yap-box dogs, here’s a trick that works every single time.

When the dog barks incessantly at noises, thank them! Give a show of paying attention for a sec, then call them over and tell them you heard that, what a good dog for protecting us, good job with warning us, thank you. Don’t give treats, just loves.

Our schipperke (a notoriously barky breed) gets 2 yaps out and then quits when she’s thanked. She used to yap uncontrollably for 10 min at a time, ignoring all commands to stop.

This truly works on dogs of all sizes. I mean it when I say don’t give treats, you’ll turn your yapper into a monster.
