We have 6 chickens and we get up to 4 eggs a few times a week. We are hoping for more when weather gets wormer. We would also like to purchase baby chicks in April or may to use them for food in fall.
We are looking for ideas where to put them. I know that the chickens will not be kind to the babies or even when they get a bit older. Any suggestions on the new chicks is also welcome.
We used to raise our own chickens and we really enjoyed it, for the
most part. I noticed the other day that the chicks are in and with the
price of eggs at over $2 a dozen here locally, I was thinking about
setting about another chix house and raising my own once again.
Have you thought about raising chickens for eggs or meat or both?
Perhaps we could swap some ideas about doing it frugally- building less
expensive chicken coups, selling the eggs, etc.
