KeymasterI would raise chicks in a heartbeat! I
have a shed I can convert into a coop and all the books. I’m on Murray
McMurray Hatchery website regularly.I have everything except….the
willingness of my husband to keep chickens. I’m working on him though! I’d
like about a dozen laying hens (including Americauna so I can get the cool
blue/green eggs) and 25-50 meat birds.I’m sure there would be a ready
market for eggs here on the island. From: Budget101_@yahoogroups.com [mailto:Budget101_@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Liss

Subject: Budget101.com : Spring
Chickens- Raising your own?We used to raise our own chickens and we really
enjoyed it, for themost part. I noticed the other day that the chicks are in and with the
price of eggs at over $2 a dozen here locally, I was thinking about
setting about another chix house and raising my own once again.
Have you thought about raising chickens for eggs or meat or both?
Perhaps we could swap some ideas about doing it frugally- building less
expensive chicken coups, selling the eggs, etc.
