uaevisaSpaghetti Ice Cream, aka Spaghettieis, is a German treat that you’re sure to love too!
Today spaghetti ice cream sounds like it could be something that belongs in Willy Wonka’s factory, but spaghetti ice cream actually originates from the German city of Mannheim.
The spaghetti itself is made of vanilla ice cream and once frozen is covered in strawberry sauce, giving it the appearance of spaghetti noodles with marinara sauce.The dessert was later picked up by restaurants in Germany and has since spread to many countries across the globe. The spaghetti ice cream was invented by Dario Fontanella during the late 1960’s. Upon first serving it to his children, they broke into tears because they had wanted ice cream, NOT spaghetti!
Other restaurants have also created their own versions of spaghetti ice cream, but Spaghettieis remains one of the staples when trying out the unusual treat!
German Spaghetti Ice Cream
You will need:
Slightly Softened Vanilla Ice Cream
Berry Sauce- strawberry, raspberry, cherry, or red currant is recommended
White Chocolate & Coconut Flakes
Potato RicerPress the slightly softened ice cream through the potato ricer onto a chilled plate. We usually chill the potato ricer in the freezer for about 10 minutes or so before starting.Pour some of the berry sauce over the top. Top with coconut flakes and grated white chocolate. Serve immediately.
To Make a Berry Sauce:
Combine 1 pound of quartered, hulled strawberries in a blender with 3 tbs of orange juice. Pulse into a sauce.
This is really good with chocolate spaghetti ice cream too! Just add a fudge sauce over the top and garnish with berries.
