      Hi Liss,

I hear you on the #/cost of supplies, but I know as a teacher, that

in the past, the teachers would purchase a lot of these materials for

the kids on their own. They certainly don’t make enough to do this

      all the time…

I’m guessing that they color-code notebooks to each subject to make

it easier for the kids to be organized and know what to get

out… haven’t had to do that, though.

I am buying for 3 lists this year… and luckily, my parents gave me

some money and my in-laws have been picking up many supplies as

well. i love the sales that walmart and target have each year…

they should start any week now, since we start school on august

      20th! Here is my Kindergartner’s list;

      1 book bag

      2 boxes of tissues

2 large rolls of paper towels

2 boxes of wipes or refills

      1 disposable camera

      1 rest towel

      1 box of 64 crayons

      2 boxes of washable markers

2 boxes of Hefty 1-zip school bags

1 box of resealable gallon bags

1 box of resealable sandwich bags

1 box of resealable quart bags

      4 glue sticks

      1 bottle of glue

      1 box of band-aids

1 box of Expo dry erase markers

My 3rd grader’s list is almost identical and we haven’t gotten my 6th

grader’s list yet (they are still working on it, since this is the

first year for 6th grade in our school). Our school is a charter

school. It’s technically public, receiving tax funds for per pupil

expenditure, books, teachers’ salaries… but we have to pay for the

buildings and the renovations/upkeep. I know that they are doing the

best with the money they are “given” and have even saved 325,000.00

which we can put toward our future high school.

As for the detention… that’s ridiculous!!! it certainly isn’t the

child’s fault, nor the parents’, that they are on a budget. the

school should be able to provide some support… typically, around

here, grocery stores and churches help out by collecting supplies for

      families who need assistance.

good luck, liss. i hope you find some awesome sales out there!!!

      😉 jill
