I used to do fundraisers but would be embarrassed to give out the junk they

sold. Now, every fundraiser packet my youngest brings home goes directly into

the recycling box. My two older ones do fundraisers for clubs or cheering and I

will support those. Its their choice to participate so I expect to pay something

or participate in a fundraiser. The money goes towards trips, or other extras

not paid for by the school.

Lori, I agree with you.  I am happy to get my kids things off their school

supply list and stock up on the penny and nickle sales at Staples and other

Office stores.  What I HATE, is when the school say to give them $30 for my

child’s school supplies when I know I could have purchased all of it for $5 to

$7.  What also really irk’s me is all the fund raisers for the school that

our children are expected “required” to participate in. Nancy J.

I can remember growing up and my
parents buying us school supplies (I am in

      my 30’s). I never had a

school supply list that didn’t look the same as what I am seeing
      this year

for my kindergarten. In fact, it seems alot cheaper than
      what my parents

bought for us in the 80’s. We always had to have a

certain color folder or notebook and we ALWAYS had to supply

kleenex. Even in Jr. High we had to supply a box to home room.

My apologies, but it seems like it’s the way it has always been.
      Truthfully,

I don’t want the school district to raise my property

taxes with a reason of “paying for this stuff.” I’d much rather fund
      it on

      my own terms.
