Create your own Fabric Covered Totes – this is an aweseome way to make sure all of your décor matches and those little canvas totes are kind of ugly. Cheap material ideas include curtains (cloth shower curtains), heavy sheets, etc.
These are made out of repurposed boxes, fabric and glue.
first trim the sides off the box
then form fabric handles, measure and cut a small slit in the ends of the boxes for the handles
place the box on the fabric to measure the size needed and when you’ve got the correct measurement (this should cover the bottom of the box and be sized to fold up and cover the sides as well, apply glue to the bottom of the box to hold it in place. smooth it to get all the wrinkles out.
repeat on the sides.
see how the fabric overlapped about an inch on each end? now when you apply the final piece, it should go right to the edges. apply glue to the side and glue the side piece in place.
fold down on the inside of the box and glue, smooth, seal.
trim the hole for the handle and thread them through, gluing them in place.
using a piece of the box sides, cut out a small square, cover it in glue, press it firmly over the handle slot, let dry completely.
