We use Love & Logic system in our home. It’s made a world of difference in our daughter! It’s by Jim Fay. https://www.loveandlogic.com

I am very fond of the Love and Logic series. (Can’t remember who they are by, though). There are helicopter parents (over protective, always hovering overhead ready to swoop to the rescue, drill sergeant parents (do it my way and do it fast), and logical parents. Illustration:

      Kid forgets lunch at home.

Helicopter parent leaves work, rushes home to get the lunch and rushes off to school to deliver the lunch to their poor hungry baby.
Drill sergeant parent delivers a loud and long lecture on how stupid it was to forget their lunch.
Logical parents go on about their day, make sure Junior has a snack when they do arrive home and commiserate on how awful it is to forget your lunch and be hungry. They know that Junior won’t die because they missed one meal, and that the natural consequence of stomach grumbling is likely enough to cause Junior to remember lunch from now on.
